orangeman
It took me most of the day to design this helicopter. Just couldn't get it to hang right. So I used some "keys" from Judy Peterson's long dragon. After 6 cuts I finally have something I can live with. The first one was so droopy it was actually hilarious. Had a request for a helicopter last year and will take this version to my first show of the year in Fairhope, AL this March. Whatya think? Any suggestions for improvement? I thought about cutting out windows but there just isn't room for that. Smudger, Lucky2, lawson56 and 4 others

dgman
It looks good Brian! To make it a little tighter, have you thought about using a smaller blade? I use a #3 for my standup puzzles. it does take a little more work to keep the kerf square, but it will tighten up the puzzle pieces. orangeman

Should work well on walnut. The original was cut with a #5 Pegas MG blade

rjR
Well done, I think A.K. means just ruled lines slightly indented; as you can do with a nail or an awl or even wood-burned in. Just ideas for windows.
Denny Knappen
Nicely done. A number 3 blade might do the trick.

Pancho
Brian, Good "Cobra Helicopter" puzzle. Brought back memories. Flew "Cobras" for 10 years in the Army. Like the way you solved the weight of the tail. Only suggestion is next time, tilt the rotor forward a little. Gives the illusion of forward flight. rdatelle
That looks ok to me. I think a #3 blade would do wonders for you. That seems to be my go to blade for almost everything. Good cutting.
orangeman
Thanks all for your comments. I switched to a #3 blade and it helped! Francisco aka Pancho: Good idea on the tilt. I assume both ends of the rotor would need to be tilted?
Pancho
Brian.... yes, tilt both rotor blades the same amount. With the rotors turning, (for simplicity) the path the rotors make is considered a solid disk (called the rotor disk).
heppnerguy
I think this is the first non animal puzzle I have seen. Sure opens up the possibilities Dick heppnerguy
