tuner
I would like to know more or less how my old saw stacks up against the newer ones..I bought an RBI 220VS 20 years ago it did all I needed for 15 years and I had to sell it about 5 years ago but now I think want to get a new saw. I know back then it was a good saw, but how would it be compared to a new Delta 40-694 I know the Delta is not top line but still I am comparing it to a 20 year old saw Anyone have experience with both ? I will only be doing fret work which I enjoy on soft or ply wood , I have mobility problems now but it should be better then sitting around. New Guy
I have the Delta saw you spoke of and have no problems with it so far. Think you will be just as happy with it as with a Dewalt.
Scrappile
I really don't think you can compare the two. The RBI is a high end saw, the Delta is mid range. Both will cut fretwork I am sure, the RBI will do it forever, the Delta, maybe/maybe not. Course you could buy several Delta's for the cost of one RBI. I see a lot used of RBI's on Craigs list in my part of the country, might be worth checking. Around here they sell for from $400 to $650 most often. tuner
Thanks for the replys they helped, down here I have seen the RBI on Craigslist for 225. And yes I could get one... except after 15 years it's time for something different , don't need longevity I am 74 and sometimes I thing my brain in only ticking at 50 seconds a minute 😥 just looking to pass some time with the only hobby that I truly enjoy, I was hoping to get a saw below a delta.. done a lot of reading don't think so. Scrappile
Turner, there are review of a lot of saw on this forum in the "Articles" section. Might be worth a look. There is one on the saw you are looking at. http://www.scrollsawvillage.com/articles.html/_/resources/scroll-saw-manufacturers
tuner
One other question. I hear a lot about quick blade change but almost nothing about just releasing to rethread ,that would seem more important , or am i missing something
JTTHECLOCKMAN
That is what quick blade changing is. The Delta is a Dewalt. Same company different color.

Rolf
If you have the resources The Hawks are still a much better saw. and has new capabilities that your old Hawk did not. Top and Bottom feed Removable clamps , top and bottom Very easy adjustable front to back blade motion, Still the robust smooth saw that you remember. Just my opinion not a paid advertisement by Hawk I regret not buying the BM20 from them at the Fox Chapel open house a couple of years ago. I just don't have the room for two Hawks and didn't have any room in my Jeep as we were on a bit of a road trip at the time.
