Nudity? To post or not

Kris Martinson

Recommended Posts

I have been wanting to cut a "tasteful" nude picture, and I finally found one that is both beautiful and suitable. I think I nailed it with this one. I want to know if there is any objection to me posting it here. I have removed the "offensive" portion of the actual cutting, so that it might be allowed. Please let me know if you want it posted.

I think this is something best left up to Travis to decide, he's the one that has final say on all matters. The image might not bother most people, but there's always a chance of upsetting someone. To post a pattern on the subject is one thing, because the pattern can be posted in a special section (mature) that holds these patterns. People know before they look in that section that the patterns might be offensive, so they're prewarned. To post a picture of your finished work is different, people will not be prewarned that what they're about to look at may be offensive.

We do allow non-nude pinups patterns.  I think the same would apply to cut projects.  A good measure is if you'd see something similar on network TV or in a mainstream checkout-aisle magazine* or advertisement, it's OK to post.

If you're not sure if it's too explicit, it's better to err on the safe side and not post it.

If you do post something that is a bit more "adult,"please title the post accordingly so that people who don't want to see it don't have to.

Here's a little trick you can use to hide part of your post.  This might work for circumstances like this.

  1. Write your post.
  2. Attach your picture to the post.
  3. At the end of your post, click the Add To Post next to your attachement.
  4. Select your attachement text (looks like brackets follwed by "attachment=...").
  5. Click the third icon from the left is called Special BB Code in your compose window tools.
  6. Select Spoiler and click OK.  It will add some BB Code that looks like the following:
    1. [spoiler][attachment=40374:oops.jpg][/spoiler]
  7. Then preview post.  Your image is collapsed.  You have to click the "Show" button to expand it to see the picture.  I posted an example below.

You don't have to do it this way.  But it's a nice courtesy for folks who accidentally stumble into the post.

Travis, I sent you a copy of it in a message.

Nude is good. As long as it's not going overboard. It seems to be something a lot of people shy away from for some reason but there is plenty of it out there. A lot of artists do nude, without being rude or offensive. Surely you wouldn't go into the Sistine Chapel and ask that they cover things up because you find it offensive.

The consensus here seems to be a resounding NO ! So I will not post it. If anyone really wants to see it, you can message me, and I'll send it to you.

It is not anything pornographic. It is art. It is my interpretation of something I find beautiful. It is nothing more "offensive" than you would see on many statues on public display in our museums.

I cut plenty of nude ART pieces from requests not personal choice I think too many people nowadays find such things for some reason or another offensive. Tell your wife / husband next time you happen upon them in their birthday suits to put some clothes on your offensive looking like that. If you can still type after that please post here what they said in reply. Naked art is not pornographic you will see a lot worse on daytime tv or pop up ads on the internet . My simple advice if you do not wish to look at such pieces would be if the title or header says NUDE chances are its a NUDE so why click open and be offended you cannot be offended if you do not click on the topic .

Again, I say, I will NOT post it. But I thought that we were all adults here, and that this site is about our ART. I really fail to see how Americans, in general, have such a warped perception about the human body. We all have one. How is it pornography for anyone to see the human form presented in its finest? I see the human body as beautiful, natural, even incredible. I cannot understand the objection to something that we all share. I just don't get it. The picture I did is just a simple, beautiful body. There is no "sex". It's just a beautiful subject that I view as art. Simple....? Smack me if I'm wrong.

Kris...you asked a reasonable question and got responses as to what people think. Yes, we are all adults here. I think it is a bit unfair for you to ask a question and then lecture us about our responses.

When I look at the projects posted and the number of religious themed ones, I would say the members here are a bit older and conservative in their view of the naked body art.
