stoney
Is anyone using a 5 hp shop vac in conjunction with a cyclone such as a dust deputy? Does a 5 hp shop vac have adequate suction? I have been researching wall mount units and 5 hp is about the biggest I can find.
dgman
Hey Al, I use a shop vac connected to a Dust Deputy, but it is only hooked up to my random orbital sander. I use a full size 1 HP dust collector connected to a separator for everything else, including my scroll saw. The vac/ Dust Deputy does a great job for sanding, but I don't use it for anything else. The HP ratings on shop vacs are phony. It's impossible to get 5 HP on 110 volt circut. I 1/2 is about all you can get. The real ratings are amps. Yeah Dan I know their HP ratings are as phony as a 3 dollar bill but they don't list the amp draw in the advertising or specs. Right now I'm using the big Craftsman shop vac they rate at 6.5 HP. It does a very good job but I want to tie a wall mount shop vac to a cyclone and I'm trying to find out if what's available will do the job. trackman
I have been using a 5hp shop vac with a dust deputy for about 5 years with no problem. I move the hose to whatever tool I am using. And runs when I use foot switch for saw. Hasn't burned out shop vac so far. 5 years. Also I have a jet air filtration system.

Thanks for the info trackman. I'm sure I wouldn't have as much suction as I have now with my 6.5 hp vac but it sure would keep the filter on the shop vac cleaner.
