NiTay614
I have been working on Uncle Sam whirligigs. I took one outside this afternoon and discovered the base is not heavy enough to enable the whirligig to remain upright. Presenty it rest on a 31/2 x 31/2x 2 inch block that is secured to a 3/4 x 6 x 6 inch piece. Any suggestions would be appriciated. He is fasten to my deck railing at the present time with a quicky clamp. Thanks
merlin
If it was mine I wood attach it with a bracket attached to Uncles leg to that there post. Raise it up the post so the blades clear the top. My 2 NZ cents worth. Merlin
NiTay614
I am not attempting to attach it to the deck railling. I made the whirligigs with the idea of selling them. I do not want them to topple over in someone else's pocession. I guess I am asking if anyone knows how I can make them more stable, say if someone wanted to place it ina flower bed. Kepy
Whirligigs are designed to be mounted. I don't think you could make them free standing without tipping when the wind blows.
edward
I have made Whirleygigs before, and what I do is use fiberglass rods about 2" long and drill a hole in the bottom of the whirleygig and insert the rod into the bottom, and I used a pressure treated railing upright and drilled a hole in the center of it and used a plastic insert to hold the fiberglass rod. These parts can be purchased at Misel hardware, hope this helps. The stakes can be purchased at H D or lowes. Edward
NiTay614
Thanks Edward, that was exactly what I was gearing toward. I purchase a bracket today which I hope will solve the problem and permit me to retrieve my quicky claps!
