heppnerguy Posted March 25, 2017 Report Posted March 25, 2017 Well I finally finished the Marine Corp symbol plaque that I was making as a request for a friend who retired from the marines last summer and now has two of his friends also retiring in a couple of months. So I go back on line, looked up the symbol and made a new pattern for it. I think they should like it. It is made of black walnut, Alder, Juniper, and pine. It is an honor to have something I have made be a gift for someone that has given so much for our country. For any one that might wish to have the pattern, I will post it in the "New Patterns" forum Dick heppnerguy jollyred, AK Moose Nugget, TripleJScroller and 4 others 7 Quote
Scrappile Posted March 25, 2017 Report Posted March 25, 2017 Turned out beautiful, Dick. How did you cut the backer? Quote

I sort of traced the pattern onto a piece of 1/4 in BB Ply. then cut it, placed the plaque on it, recut again. glued on the pieces and then recut once more.. It was not an easy thing but I ended up getting it done Dick heppnerguy Quote

heppnerguy Posted March 28, 2017 Author Report Posted March 28, 2017 Intarsia is really easier then scrolling. No inside cuts or small fret work. I hope more of you will give it a try Dick heppnerguy GrampaJim 1 Quote
GrampaJim Posted March 28, 2017 Report Posted March 28, 2017 Great job! One of my grandsons just finished boot camp for the Marines at Pendleton. Your pattern is on my to do list. Thanks for posting it! I agree, cutting for Intarsia can be easy. Sanding is the part I could do without. Quote

I find it much easier to cut the Intarsia pieces then do all the small holes and small cuts in scrolling and I haven't done anything big yet! Nice job on this project. Your friend will love it and his friends who are receiving will too. Thanks for sharing your pattern for others to use. heppnerguy 1 Quote
Scrappile Posted March 28, 2017 Report Posted March 28, 2017 I got to see this in person today. Believe me, the picture does not do it justice. It is beautiful. As an old Marine I am going to try doing one to hang on my wall. heppnerguy and GrampaJim 2 Quote

This is an easy prediction, being the fabulous job you do with your scrolling items Dick heppnerguy Quote
