HI all

I cannot get paint.net to find my samsung xpress laser printer with the scanner so I can't use that. Paint in windows 7 won't find my scanner either. I like gimp but it won't save in jpeg format. Anysuggestions for a simple paint program where I can scan a pattern and save in jpeg so then I can open word and put depending on the size of them a couple on one sheet of paper to save on paper when doing smaller things.

Thanks

Hi Bill.  Do you have the basic scanner software that allows you to scan with the scanner and save it directly to your computer?  If you simply scan with the scanner's basic program, you should then be able to bring it into another program like you want.

All Scanners that I know of come with operating programs that let you scan an image and save it to a file. You can scan and then save the file in the format of your choice by using this software. Then you can open that saved file in your paint program. As long as the paint program can recognize the file format that you saved the scanned image in, it should work with no problem. It just takes two steps instead of one.

I save my files in TIF format, because it does not lose data during the saving or re-saving process. The most commonly used format is JPG. Each time that you save or re-save a JPG file, the data compaction process of JPG removes some of the data to make the saved file a smaller file size. After several re-saves of the same image, the quality of the image begins to degrade. This doesn't happen in the TIF  or Bitmap BMP formats. For line drawings like most frequently used in scroll sawing. Set the scanner software to scan at 150 DPI (Dots Per Inch).
