scrollerpete Posted April 9, 2017 Report Posted April 9, 2017 Tried something different, had some nice maple and walnut and decided to try to make a cutting board. Since the wife said that it was her, I think it turned out OK. I used my router to cut some fingers hold on the side. GrampaJim, Lucky2, Fish and 4 others 7 Quote

You sure did that one proud.I tried to put to boards together and it was so lopsided.I tryed to get a clean straight edge with the table saw ,that didn't work i tried planing both pieces with my hand electric planner .That didn't work.So i glued them together any way .i had to turn the pattern on an angle to miss the bad joints and i got er done.Guess i need an edge planner.Seeing your more than perfect work makes me wonder how you acheived such tight fits? Kevin I just used the table saw to rip the wood 1" wide and glue them face up (open end grain) and the sanding was done with belt sander, started with 80 grit and then to 120, next palm sander from 180, 220 and finish with 400 grit. Glue that I use is Titebond III Quote
Rolf Posted April 10, 2017 Report Posted April 10, 2017 It looks great! I was going to ask about the glue but all of my questions have been answered. Quote

When I give my scroll saw(s) a break I am going to delve into pyrography .... wood burning. I bought this to take to the lake when I go to the "cabin" this summer instead of taking all my carving knives and wood for carving. I will let you know how it goes Quote
