Rob Posted May 4, 2017 Report Posted May 4, 2017 Today I cut this trivet from an Islamic geometric design. Just for fun, here is the piece of reclaimed rimu I used. I know I should have cleaned it up first but I wanted to get cutting.... I was almost tempted to leave the old paint on one side but in the end sanded it off then dipped it in 50/50 BLO and applied a beeswax topcoat. It was actually the front panel from a drawer just under an inch thick. I buy broken furniture or drawer boxes from the council recycling centre. I am fortunate that rimu was used extensively for building and furniture in New Zealand so it is relatively easy to find although it is now a protected species only milled under permit. Rob Quote
