Brian is trying
Hello everyone. I am not new to scroll sawing but go in cycles of projects. I have made a couple scroll saw logs in the past and really enjoyed it. I had gotten a book from the library that only had two patterns, I made them both. Does anyone know where i might find more? I would love to make my own patterns but am not very gifted at coming up with ideas. Thank You, Brian
jollyred
I for one don't know what a scroll saw log looks like. If you could post pictures of what these are, I think the people here can help you better.
Scrappile
Brian, welcome to the forum. Glad you are joining us. I am not sure either what you mean by scroll saw logs. A picture would really help us help you. You do know there is a huge pattern library here on this site, all free patterns.

Tommy Johnson
I got a book years ago called Fun and Easy Scrollsaw projects. The name of the book is Spielman. There are 3 log patterns in that one.

worbler
From what I could find out it's just a pattern cut into a log, that's had it face removed. I'd figure you'd remove the face with a bandsaw and possibly the back as well, if you wanted to layer it. I found this while looking: WayneMahler and Scrolling Steve
WayneMahler
Brian Welcome to the village. You can use any pattern as long as it fits the size of the log. There is tons of patterns here for free, and Steve Good has a bunch more for free. There also quite a few pay sites that have something you like. Also you may want to check out pintrest. I have gotten a lot of good ideas from there.
Tommy Johnson
I always save the front piece I cut out of the log. People are amazed at what is inside the log.
Rolf
The only ones I have seen are the ones you found in the Speilman book. I didn't have an appropriate log so I cut it in an old piece of hand rail. poupster2 and Tommy Johnson
worbler
So essentially you'd be looking for elongated patterns. That shouldn't present too much of a challenge. What subject would you like?
