This is something I finished cutting last week.  Not completely finish yet because I think I have a plan.  The pattern is from "The Art Factory" and is called "The Keeper of Time".  It is suppose to have a small clock in his paw.  But, for some reason I visualized a glass ball in his paw.  So after some searching I found some glass balls and I picked the amber color.  Now my plan is to figure a way to put a small light behind the ball and make it a night light for my Grandson.  So it is not finish and mounted on a base yet.  I have to find the little light and figure how to attach it first before I do finishing.  I think I found one at "Wooden Teddy Bear"  but I am waiting for some answers to some questions about it that I emailed this weekend.  I have until next Christmas to figure this out.  But that is only a little over 6 months away!!

This was really a fun cut.  It is 1/2" Cherry, around 17" long and 9 1/2" high.

Great cut Paul! I love that pattern. I cut that several years ago. It does have a mini clock insert and a mini pendulum mounted on the back side of the clock. It is on display at the Woodcraft store in Ventura, Ca.

Thank you, do you have pictures of yours?  I'd love to see it.  I know Charley (CharleyL) did it, and is a beautiful piece.  That is where I first saw it.  Took me a little while to find the pattern, Charley could not remember where he purchased it.

One reason I went with the ball was because if I don't like it when done, I will get to cut the pattern again.

Paul, this pattern is available in a past issue of CWWC, I'm just not sure of which one it is.  I like the look of it better with the glass ball, any that I have seen with a clock didn't look quite right. The issue with the clock ones, was that the clock insert is to small.

I don't have a picture but I will be at the store next Saturday. I'll try to remember to take a picture then.

You are a wonderful and talented scroller and wood worker. Everything you cut is amazing. We should be up your way early this week to pick up Sharon's new glasses from Costco so I will be giving you a call and see if we can come be your place and see the saw and the clock.. Might be our last trip to Tri Cities before we head south. I have a little gift for you that I hope you enjoy

That is a good cutting.  I wonder if you could put a sheet of translucent plastic behind it to make the night light?  Then a box type frame to hold everything together.  A small hole in the plastic behind the glass ball will let it glow.

Now that you say that about the magazine, I think that is where Charley said he got it also.  I did internet searches and came up with it at The Art Factory.  Must be a Dirk Boelman pattern.

I agree, just a stunning piece of artwork you have created Paul.  Even without the light I am sure your grandson would love it.  I like the switch over to the ball rather than a clock.  Look forward to seeing how the final piece works out.  Thanks for sharing.  Hope Dick gets to drop in and see you.

Very nice project Paul.   The dragon looks great in cherry.   I too like the ball.   The horns look fragile though so I hope your grandson puts it on a shelf and not somewhere it could fall.   Thanks for showing us.
