Fish
I was going to do this on my DW788 in the past but at the time didn't have the money. I lost the numbers and website you folks had posted in the past, would you mind posting the site and all the numbers again? Mine is a type one and I'm sure pretty old. It's making those funny knocking noises again, I took it all apart and can't get it to quiet down. All I had to do last time was tighten things up. It didn't work this time. I couldn't find any other problems. The only other thing I'd need is a bearing press. It costs $50+ at harbor freight. I'll have to watch the video on youtube again just to be sure. Thanks Dan
hawkeye10
Hey Dan; You might be able to use a vise to press them in. Be sure and use a pad like a pine board cut down to fit your vises jaw's. If you could do that it would save you $50. If I remember right the bearings that the video suggest you getting is a better bearing bearing and cost less. Please don't skimp on the grease they recommend. Here is a link to the video and remember there are (4) Parts to the video.
GrampaJim
I used my e-cheap-o drill press to push the old bearings out and the new ones in. Probably not good for the press, but I only paid about $50. It seemed to work ok. When I did mine, I watched the videos so often I think I had them memorized. jerry1939
I haven't used my saw enough that it needs bearings yet, but have a lot of mechanical experience. On bearings that small, a drill press should be fine.
Dan
I agree with Jerry. I had to change some bearings and used a C-clamp. Pretty easy.
Fish
I didn't think about using my drill press. Thanks, I'll try that when I get the bearings.
