inkscape Grrrr

I had not been having big problems but I have actually done the intersecting words successfully sometimes more sort of than great but have managed to complete 7. I will save but it always opens to desk top and I have a little icon on the desktop. Clicking on that opens with working over on the far left on just open blank page. I can get it into ink scape by importing it in from opening the desktop list and clicking on that. Then I have had 2 that showed up on in file recent drawing or what ever it says and was saved to ink scape I would prefer to have it saved in inkscape so I don't have to import it back in if this makes since.  Problem 2. for some reason when I align and distribute often the duplicate name and the red name will align vertically then with horizontal the will both move up and end up on the bottom of the last name. I can get them into place but any movement after that they are not moving as one and separate.3. I just finished one before dinner and went fine. After dinner I worked on one that was started earlier. Actually got to the end and was trying the cookie cutter part I did select the gray and selected the last name and then went to path and difference and then nothing happened now cut out. I went back to the the where you make the duplicate and advanced on through and each time no cookie cutter done Not sure why. Presently using the newest version. Sorry if this is not clear husbands you understand my wife has talked threw this whole thing and asking questions so thought were interrupted. Thanks for understanding and help
