Iguanadon
Completely off-topic, but a major upcoming event in 2 months. I came across this map for the eclipse August 21. This one allows you to zoom in on your precise location and find out what percentage of eclipse you'll experience. Those of you on the east coast, Tennessee and South Carolina are prime spots. Here in Carolina Beach, NC for example, we'll see 96.933% coverage which ain't too shabby. Let's hope for clear skies that day. Go to this site, read the reference material then near the bottom it says "I have read and understand..." Click that for the map and then zoom in on your exact location and click on it. http://www.eclipse2017.org/xavier_redirect.htm

jollyred
I live on the line for the eclipse, in fact the longest time for totality is just a few miles from where I live. We will get an extra half second of total eclipse! I have already gotten some of the special glasses to view it with. Did you know that in 2024 another total eclipse will cross the U.S.? Its path of totality will cross the current path just a few miles from here, also.

I will have to check into this as it seems contrary to all I have heard. I sure hope you are correct on this. Dick heppnerguy

Dick heppnerguy You have to pay attention to exactly what they're saying when they claim it's the last one for xxx years... This one is the first one in 99 years that spanned across the entire continental US and it won't happen again for xxx years. But eclipses happen all the time, it's just a matter of where you have to be for the total eclipse.
orangeman
Iggy, I received a notice that there is a craft show in Andrews, NC centered around the eclipse event. Cheap too. 2 or 3 days. They expect crowds. bb

I thought about it for a nanosecond and the answer is No. Too many unknowns although it is only 2 hours from where we live. The community we live in is sponsoring a day trip via bus to the Tallulah Gorge to see the eclipse. I'm thinking the traffic is gonna be a nightmare and wonder if the bus can even get close to the Gorge. Probably won't go on that one either. I hate crowds - except when they descend on a craft show I'm doing. bb
