Good afternoon,

i am looking to get a chuck for holding these fine drill bits, for doing small fret work. Does anyone have one and can you recommend where I should purchase this, thx for your help, RJ

I have a craftmans 10" bench drill press it handles all  my bits down to 1/32. I bought it 2 years ago new from Sears for $150 Or you could buy a mini drill chuck that you chuck in your Drill press for about $30 or less.

Thx, that's what I have a small table top craftsman drill press, but some of these super small bits don't hold real good, so I was figuring if I had a mini chuck would work, but need to see where to buy, RJ

I use a Dremel rotary tool and this plunge base.

I got a mini chuck from Mikes wood shop now handled by Wooden Teddy bear I think.  It worked pretty good. I have one now from my father in law which is great he was a tool and die man. I too had a Craftsman 8 inch which took any and all bit sizes. Unfortunately the chuck wore out and they discontinued the part. My delta won't hold the real small bits.

I also got mine from Mikes wood shop about 8 years ago... so far has held up.. I really like it as it's key less, quick, and simple. I just leave it in the drill press and use it for most all my bits.. except the bigger bits that won't fit.. Not sure how big it goes up to..

I like the part where it says "USA and/or Imported."

I think that's fancy sales-talk for "Might be made in America, might be made in Taiwan, China, Germany or Cleveland. We don't really know, they just showed up in our warehouse one day and the boss said we gotta sell them now to make room for the 2018 models."

But wait, don't despair. They say it is "contractor quality." I wonder what that means. Let's try google. Hmm, that's a rather odd thing to brag about when selling a product. :)

Years ago some of the small chucks from Mikes workshop had a real problem with wobble.  I do wonder what Contractor quality is.  I expect them to run true.

For me personally, my problem with Mikes' chucks was that they didn't seems to self center the bits, if that makes sense.  I didn't have any problem with the chuck wobbling, but if the bit wasn't set just right, the bit itself would wobble bad.  I could fiddle with it for a few minutes and eventually get bits set so that they were wobble free, but I despised the process and never found a sure fire technique to get it adjusted without the fiddle process.  I'm sure this arrangement is fine for many folks, but patience isn't a strength of mine.

When I got the Dremel, and the Dremel chuck, I was relieved beyond measure.  These chucks seem to draw the bit to the center and line it up.

There is a far better way. I just replaced my drill press chuck with a Jacobs 41BA 1/2-20 medium duty chuck.  It holds all my numbered bits just fine and goes up to 3/8" if I need it.  I tried several mini chucks and was not happy with the alignment or wobble. No it is not cheaper unless you find something on ebay.  I think mine was under $40.  They have different mounts so be sure to get the one for your drill press.

Scott I never liked running my big drill press at max speeds. The recommended speed for a 1/16 drill in hard wood is 3000rpm the #70 that I use for real fine work should spin even faster. I Have the Micro Mark drill press and run it @4500    http://www.micromark.com/MicroLux-3-Speed-Mini-Drill-Press

Don't know how much you want to spend but I put this one on my drill press and have been very happy for a few years, It goes down to 1/32" and up to 1/2" No appreciable runout and I have never had a bit come loose and some people have said about keyless chucks .It's from Little Machine Shop.

I bought a chuck from lowes for about $30. tried it and went back for another one .It  holds very tiny drill bits. Its an impact one too.I think Dewalt is the name on it.It will not bend or break as the cheap ones do if you drop it and i drop everything.

I also have a DeWalt chuck from Lowes that I bought several years ago. It has the hex shank and horizontal groove in the stem for use in power screwdrivers, etc. but I can also put it into either of my drill press chucks and it works fine for holding even the tiniest #80 drill bits that I have.  I think it was about $26 when I bought it.

Lately, I've been using my Dremel and the Dremel plunge type router base for drilling straight holes in scroll saw work, but I  also have used my table top drill press in the past.
