tuner
I use spray glue to hold patterns but I was wondering what I could use for smaller patterns. The spray puts our a lot plus turning upside down is just a waste and a messy. I could put tape first then use white glue or whatever. Just want something you brush on or spread with a finger right on the wood.
Scrappile
Some use glue sticks. I don't but I have read about it.

It did not hold very well but there is a good chance that it was a 15 year old glue stick...

I use a bigger piece of card board then put a used piece of printer paper on that and throw it away when finished. As for the expense don't worry you have plenty on money. WayneMahler
First thing I thought about was a glue stick. Never used one for this. I just spray my pattern then attach it.
Sycamore67
I use 3M77 spray glue over blue tape. I just use a quick spray and do not bother to try to clear nozzle. I just have to scrape the nozzle off once in awhile. I also bought some replacement nozzles on eBay. Lucky2
kmmcrafts
No spray glue used here.. I use full sheet shipping labels.. print my pattern out on them.. peel and stick.. They are pricey though if you get small quantities and or buy them local.. I get 1000 sheets at a time off eBay so I only have to order about 2 times a year.. Multi functional for me as my business is online so I do a lot of shipping anyway. Kevin
GrampaJim
No spray in this house (asthma sufferer). I have used glue sticks, but mostly use white glue (Arlene's or Elmer's) over painters tape. Works for me just fine. The only down side is waiting for the white glue to dry, so plan ahead. Jim
Rolf
Xyron machine is what I use. I have the 9" and the 5". buy it with a 50% coupon from Micheals. It dry laminates adhesive to the back of the pattern and can be removable or permanent. I still use the blue tape under it. Whenever I finish a can, I keep the nozzle in a jam jar with a little white spirit which I use to clear blocked nozzles. That way I always have a few on hand. If I were to invert the can can and clear the nozel off each time I would run out of propellant before I ran out of gas. 15 minutes of soaking will do the trick. Not a fan of glue sticks. To clean the nozzle, I remove it after a couple of uses, drop it into tinyl jar with turp and give it a shake. Keeps them running fine. ike
I have used gluesticks over painters tape. they work fine there but it seems like a wast to use painters tape with spray. It's a lot simpler to use spry by itself. I have an old piece of 1/4 ply to spray on and when it gets to bad to use I just get another piece of ply. stoney
Turning a aerosol can upside down to clear the nozzle is a waste. The manufacturer is happy with those that use that method as they sell more product. I quit doing that along time ago. Like others have said there is a better way. Scrappile
Okay, thanks guys, no more clearing the nozzle by turning the can upside down. I just naturally do it, hope I can break the habit and save some juice.

IKE Ike, I use those free property magazines estate agents put out. After spraying the pages stick together and you just turn the page and keep going until you run out then chuck it in the recycling. spirithorse
On some small patterns such as ornaments, I just tape the pattern to the wood with cellophane packing tape. I tape over the entire pattern since it is a small pattern which helps lubricate the blade while cutting and keeps the entire pattern tight to the wood. God Bless! Roberta Moreton
Glue stick for small things. Use enough or it might lift. I also like it for demonstrations because it was s less messy. Not for intense fretwork.
