Dilemma

I have been asked to design a puzzle for a customer at a recent craft show.

The person is the local regional office manager for a branch of a well known national company.

The puzzle the person wants is of the company's logo! And the order might entail 15-20 puzzles in the $25-$30 range.

Obviously the company's logo is copyrighted or trade marked.

Any advice on how I should proceed?

I could make the puzzles and sell them to the person without any identification of who made them.

Please help.

He's representing the company and works for them?  If so, I'd say do it, their representative is requesting and ordering, so you shouldn't have any issues.  Of course I'm no lawyer, so take it for what it's worth.  ;-)

Wow that is a dilemma That I have no clue what to do with that. I am sure the copyright folk will help. I wondered if the person since he is a area manager would be able to get permission from the corporation easier than you could. Being that it is national I would want the permission first.  But that is from a cautious man

You should get permission from the head office, no regular employee can give you the proper permission required to make anything off of their logo. I would think the best people to ask for permission, would be the company's legal department. If you explain what you want to use the logo for, there may not be any problem with using it, but it's best to ask the right people.

I just received a similar request from a customer who her and her husband owns a local Mr. WaterHeater. She signed off on a disclaimer about copyrights. And I will say she was happy to do so. We never know what to expect when you advertise "custom orders welcomed" but need to be prepared to cover our butts. Wish I understood the laws better but going to proceed as planned.
