Does the Dewalt 788 allow top and bottom feed? What year did the series 2 come out? Thanks.

Yes, top or bottom feed is possible.

I have a 2006 which is a type 2 so, at least 11 years, not sure when they made the switch.

Hey Dan, the DeWalt 788 was designed as a top feeder, and certainly is capable of bottom feeding too. 

Are you looking to buy one?

I bottom feed with it as i can't hold down the top arm if i top feed.

I always just assumed it was bottom feed as thats the way my old delta was. never tried top feeding it but dont see why not. its just thumbs screw things top and bottom. will try it today.

I always top feed both the DeWalt 788 and the EX21.

I was trying to remember when I got my Type one but not certain I think it was in the late 90's on sale at Lowes. I started with a little two speed Dremel which started after being out of job at the time of Military base closures and help through a depressive time. Then moved on to the dewalt because I wanted to do fret work but had to use pin end blades. The Dewalt opened a whole new world and addiction to scroll sawing.

I guess I didn't realize the 788's had been around that long.. I started my sawing in 2006... but didn't get my Dewalt until 2009.

As others have stated, the 788 is capable of both top and bottom feeding.  It does benefit from the addition of an aftermarket lift arm assembly though, such as the Jim Dandy Easy Lift.
