Scrolling and Repurposing

Hi,

I am new here, I have been scrolling for about 16 months now and love it. My mantra is to re-use/repurpose and recycle materials so that they don't hit the landfill. 95% of my pieces are cut from old desks, chairs, flooring and the like. I pick up peoples scraps bring them home, cut them up into salvageable pieces, glue them together and create my next canvas.

I tend to favour half to three quarter inch stock for two reasons, one its more common for me to get and secondly it adds such a great dimension to the piece.

Happy scrolling!

Thanks folks, when I grew up in Canada you could simply place your unwanted furniture at the end of the driveway and garbage men would pick it up.... Not so anymore and charges to dispose of items has resulted in people trying to give it away before they incurring costs and finding a way to transport to the dump

Welcome to the Village Wayne.  I'm Marg from Australia.  I hope that you have not been too close to the fires that have been burning BC.  I love your mantra.  ;)

Marg

Thanks Marg, I am safe from the fires, they are north of where I am which is a suburb of vancouver really. As jack johnson says in one of his songs. Reduce, reuse, recycle....

. . .   I have a furniture maker behind our store.  He always has scraps perfect for scrolling.

We need a "jealous" emoji on that "like" button area. ;) Another reason to get down to visit the store soon!

Welcome to the village Wayne.  Glad you joined us.  Repurposing old wood is a win win for everyone.  Definitely helps our bank accounts whenever we can "find" good free wood to use.

thans folks,

Bruce been down to Minny dozens of times, originally from Thunder Bay, moved out to the west coast 10 years ago though.

My wife and I head up to Grand Marais nearly every fall to enjoy the last of the temperate days before the snow flies and to enjoy the fall colors, cascading rivers and Lake Superior as we make our way up to Grand Portage.  We love that area.  My dad grew in "The Sault"  (Sault Ste. Marie) and became a naturalized US Citizen just before WW II.

Welcome to the village. Getting wood the way you do serves two purposes. One things don't geet buried in the land fills and take up a lot of otherwise needed space and you are saving money on wood supplies. I don't see how it could be any better than that. Welcome to our Village family. Hope to see  you here often
