jprincer Posted August 20, 2017 Report Share Posted August 20, 2017 I found this and a couple other forums. I was introduced to scroll sawing by an older gentleman in a church in Northeast Iowa. Always wanted to give it a try. I bought a used scroll saw this summer. Another scroller (is that a term?) told me, after I bought it, it's older and may have some vibration issues but it'll work to give it a go. I am still making room for it in the garage. I am wondering what other tools I may need to get started. I do not have a drill press for making guide/starter holes but thought I'd try to find a used Dremel for that. I agree with Denny, a Dremil is a good start but you may need a bench drill press when you have had more practice. Now pull up a chair and make yourself at home. heppnerguy Posted August 29, 2017 Report Share Posted August 29, 2017 Welcome to our family of scrollers. We are glad you decided to join us here in The Village. An electric hand held sander is a must, but you can get along with out one if you need to for awhile. You can find a drill press for a reasonable price at Harbor Freight that will serve your needs. I would not use blades from the big box store but rather purchase them on line. There are several places to go for those. Ask if you need help with that and you will soon have a nice assortment of places to buy them. Does you saw take non pinned blades and is it variable speed. These are things you will want in the near future if you do not have them now. you will need to have a printer for you patterns and spray glue or you can use blue painter 's tape and a glue stick will also work.
