Hawk BM26 - First Real Test

I wasn't planning on cutting any more this week, but I received 3 custom orders this past Saturday and Harvey got them to me quickly and it gave me an opportunity to do a real test of the Hawk.

First 2 puzzles cut out of poplar.  Meet Duke and Luky (yes, Luky, pronounced 'Lukee").  I haven't oiled them yet as I have one more to cut either this evening or in the morning.

I also tested the new Pegas Modified Geometry blades in a size #3... they are thin... thinner than the Olson Mach Speed #3 I usually use.

Overall, a grade of A+ so far.  The saw and the blades did great.  It's definitely slower cutting than I'm used to, but actually, I kind of like it, it's more relaxing and I hope to stick to a schedule of 5 puzzles per day as opposed to the 10 a day I've been doing the past 3 months in advance of my event this weekend.

The saw ran well, it turns sharper than the DeWalt by far and I feel very comfortable using it.  Bottom feeding and blade changing are easier than I expected and I'm almost as quick with it as I was with the DeWalt.  The Pegas blades are fantastic.  I think the #3 wears out a little faster being thinner, and that's OK, I just have to be sure to swap them out rather than try to force them.

I'm very happy right now.

Glad to hear the saw is working great for you. When mine wears out I will buy another Hawk. Mine is 21 years old and still going strong. I hope I haven't jinxed myself by saying that.

If you just jinxed yourself.. on the bright side.. you'd get a new saw right? LOL... If I have to wait for mine to wear out... well I don't like that idea.. because while mine is a 1998 saw.. it was still brand new in the box when I got it in May of this year... and i really want one of those new ones.. hoping I don't have to wait 21 plus years for my new Hawk, LOL

The puzzles look great and glad things are going well with your new saw, and don't forget I have predicted that you sell 290 puzzles this weekend, RJ

LOL, I haven't forgotten, I'm hoping you're right!  I always start doubting how a show will go for me and now I just hope I sell 50.  :-)

Scott I am glad you like the Pegas blades. Running a blade to long is been a problem of mine but I am doing better.
