Rockytime
My old Hawk 216 VS has two holes in the top arm. One is 1/4-20 and the other is 1/2" smooth bore. These had to have come from the factory as the 1/2" is not just drilled but bored. Are new saws like this and what are they for? A lamp or something else? kmmcrafts
Both my 220 VS and 226 Ultra have the holes.. I don't know for sure but my 220 came with the lamp inserted into the bigger hole.. so that is how I put it on my 226.. I think it's what they are for.. however I could be wrong too.. Rockytime
Thanks KM, That is what I wanted to know. I have never seen a newer saw so I wondered if they all had the hole. I have a couple of led lamps I can rework with a stump on the base to use. Regards, Les
kmmcrafts
Well, my saw isn't really all that new.. the newest one is the Ultra which is 1998.. My 220 is more of the vintage of your 216 I think.. as I have the old style round barrel style clamps in that 220..
SCROLLSAW703
one is for a lamp, the other is for a drip tank if you're cutting materials that need some sort of lube or cooling during cutting.

Rockytime
Just finished adapting a lamp to my saw. Works great. Just need to wear sunglasses when cutting now. Actually I've not done any scrolling lately. My shop is kind of in disarray because I'm redoing my dust collection. Gonna happen Thursday then I'll be back in operation. I like the way you think Friend. My guess would have been to mount a beer holder. OCtoolguy, crupiea and SCROLLSAW703 2
Rolf
The big hole fits a ring lamp mount perfectly. Hawk used to offer a water drip assembly for cutting glass etc I wonder if the tapped hole was for mounting that or another type of lamp. OOPS just saw that Scrollsaw703 just said the same thing. I had my wife in the hospital twice this week so all I finished was removing the old duct work. I have a friend helping install the new system this coming Thursday. The plan is to set the Fan collector on a shelf above my wife's car. and duct it into my little shop for my wood lathe. Then I hope to put a T in the line to connect to my scroll saw. That will come a little later. I have difficulty doing some of those things so everything is a step at a time with the help of a much younger friend who is a proficient building project manager. Nice to have friends smarter than I am. SCROLLSAW703
SCROLLSAW703
Sorry to hear about your Mrs., Rocky. Hope things are gettin' better. I know what ya mean about havin' somebody "smarter than I am" to help with things. I'm a self taught wood worker. Bein' in the trucking business all my life, I've had a lot fun the last 25 years learnin', but there's still things I have issues with & then frustration sets in. Then I have to start reading on the subject to get thru it. I've got a friend who's some years older than me, & been in construction for years. He helps me a lot with things I have issues with.
