Fish
I have the chance to buy a Hawk scroll saw model 220vs. From the info I have so far it was bought about 14 years ago. The gentleman died approx. two years after buying it and it has sat ever since. I don't know what it cost back then but from what I can see it's about $1200 now. They want $350 for it. Anyone have any ideas as far as what to look for when I see it? I've never seen one in person and wouldn't know what to look for. It's supposed to be in "like new" condition. Thanks for your help-
SCROLLSAW703
take a couple blades & a scrap piece of wood to test drive it. Listen for any unusual noises, vibrations, etc. if it doesnt have any more use than on it, it should be same as new. Check the wedge & top arm assembly. That will tell the story. Otherwise, just make sure everything is in place. The adjustment rod is in ok shape. The table doesnt have any deep scratches, things like that. good luck! $350 is a good buy for a 220. If its in good shape.
kmmcrafts
If I was looking at buying another used Hawk... I'd grab the serial number and call Bushton MFG ( Hawk ) and ask what year the saw is.. and whether it has the updated motor or not.. The older Hawks had some issues with the motor/speed controller and the manufacture of the motor is no longer in business.. so if you have an issue with it... well Bushton will hook you up with an updated motor etc.. but you have to take or ship the saw to them.. and the price for this back when I checked was $350 - 450 not including the labor if I remember correctly.. $350 isn't a bad price.. but if it's that older motor etc and you end up with either putting another $350 into it.. well it's either a boat anchor or a very expensive used saw, LOL SCROLLSAW703
Fish
I sent the serial number to Hawk and am waiting to hear back. I watched the video in their site about the motor and that's another thing I am concerned with. We'll wait and see what I hear from them. I think probably calling them would get you faster results.. my experience with the online thing is always been very slow.. stevan
I agree with knncrafts. A phone call would work much better. I have not had much luck with just an email, sort of hit or miss with their reply. OCtoolguy and SCROLLSAW703 1

Fish
I talked to the company. The saw is 25 years old and has the older - bad motor. I'm not taking the chance with it. Thank you folks for your help.
Scrappile
I look at saw on Craigslist often. Don't know why, I do not need one. But I came across this one a day or two ago. If I have money to burn I would own it. This has the good motor, I asked Rolf. It's a beauty. It is located near Spokane, Wa. Within driving range, from you Travis...... https://spokane.craigslist.org/tls/d/rbi-hawk-scroll-saw-like-new/6283814439.html
