MrsN
Will it fit on a copier or scanner? Both will work. Birchbark, poupster2 and SCROLLSAW703
Fab4
Hi Christian: If Katie's option doesn't work Another thing you can try is to take a picture of it, and resize it with Inkscape or Gimp or Photoshop then print it If you need two pages because of the size just match the sides of the 2 and tape it together Fab4 SCROLLSAW703 and poupster2

NC Scroller
Sorry but if I read this correctly what you are attempting to do and asking us to help you with is both illegal and unethical. If I miss read your question then please ignore this. If you found a finished project that you also want to cut you need to find out who designed in and obtain (purchase) a copy of the pattern from them or their legal representative. It violates copyright laws to make unauthorized copies of the pattern even if it is just for personal use. If you don't know who designed it you should post a picture of the project here and maybe someone can help you find the designer. Kragax
I have used the copier in the past when I had a finished piece and after looking determined that I had lost/misplaced the pattern. As far as I am concerned that is acceptable. To take a piece you never had the pattern for is not right, Patterns are not expensive to buy, in fact I'm going to order some from Iggy this morning. Let your conscience be your guide but try to do the right thing. People here are generous and will help you if you post a pic of what you are trying to do. Both will work. ive done this with a wolf i cut years ago and wanted to do again. it worked pretty good- had to do a little work with adjusting the.....ummm.... shade?(darn brain farts!).... of the lines but was able to get a good pattern to use again. or are you looking to scrollsaw an existing work into paper? if that be the case, set up to scroll as usual- apply pattern to lumber. then sandwich the paper in between 2 pieces of wood and cut.ive done that once using 90 lb paper and it worked pretty good. Rockytime
I always make copies of patterns I purchase. But then I never sell anything which would be a no no. SCROLLSAW703

poupster2
Thank you for all the help. And let me extinguish all the fires about ethics!. I was asked to help in the restoration of an Organ from 1887. There is a broken piece of fretwork and a full 8" X 20" fretwork panel missing. Since I've never done any restore work before, I thought I'd ask here for some advice. I appreciate the concerns about the ethics but I don't think this is too much of the concern for this one. tomsteve

Thanks for the explanation. I think you are stuck with either tracing or photo copy. Please keep us posted on the progress. BTW I went to college across the lake from you but that was many many year ago. poupster2
Lucky2
Christian, can you not just lay a piece of paper over the top of the existing piece and trace it? Len poupster2
EarltheScroller
I would take a photo of the part you want to replicate. Make sure you are perfectly straight on when you do it, then import the photo into about any photo program and increase or reduce it when you print it out, then trace it onto your piece of wood. You should get a perfect reproduction. poupster2

What you're not supposed or allowed to do, is to share the patterns with anyone. You are not allowed to sell or give the pattern to anyone, which is quite understandable. As far as selling the items you cut, you can sell as many of them as you want to cut. Len
Rockytime
I only scroll for my own amusement. Some of the patterns I have purchases say, "Five copies may be made for personal use only." I always make two copies. One for cutting and the original and other copy go into a binder. My cutting skills are not good enough for sale. Don't even know where to give them away. Neither my wife or two daughters are into scrolled items. They think, "Let the old man scroll. It keeps him happy." I'm going to be 100 years old in only 21 years. I'm happy! When a pattern says for personal use only, it's referring to you being able to cut it and if you want to sell the piece, you can. You simply can't give away 5 copies of the pattern to anyone else.
