Popular Post rdatelle
Well I decided to try and make a cheese/bread board with a piece of cheese and a mouse in it. It's made out of oak and walnut and measures 15 1/2 x 9.This one was a little tricky to do. I just couldn't get the angle right. I sent Jim a message and he gave me some tips on how to go about it. I was finally able to get it pretty close. The mouse was the hardest to do. I still have to give it a couple more coats of mineral oil and bees wax and buff it out. I'm also going to put some rubber bumpers on the bottom. It looks better in person. The light wasn't to good in my house. Any suggestions are always welcome. Lucky2
Ralph, if it looks better in real life, it's got to be one fine looking cutting board. It looks awful nice in the picture, so I can only imagine how good it really looks. Oh yeah, that's a tidy bit of inlay work. Brianr24
Great job!! I think it looks great. I don't do inlays but I have an understanding of the method. What I don't understand is fussing with the Angle like u mention. I hate to comment like this on something I don't have experience doing. But couldn't u just get the angle close and leave the inlay proud of the surface and then plan or sand flush and if ur worried about the back just do same but plan or sand to opposite piece.as long as it has an angle it's going to wedge in tight at some point. Now I understand if the finish piece has to be exact thickness and flush on both sides can't do. But really even then If u start with extra thickness and then final thickness it down when ur done(drum sander would be great $$$) again I never did this so feel free to shut me up. But it is something I plan on trying thx.
rdatelle
Brian, easier said than done. This is only my second piece so I had to get as close a fit as I could. It did stick out a little which I sanded flush. I guess it all depends on the inlay your working on. I’m still learning.

Ok so it's a bit of a fussy adjustment even when ur not worried if it sits proud ? I was thinking maybe you were trying to get the angle perfect to sit the inlay piece perfect flush. Any how It looks great. Maybe if u keep doing it Wright down the angle that works once you find it for the thickness of woods that worked for future reference. Hmmm? U probably have to know size of blade too. (Kerf) Edited November 21, 2017 by Brianr24

rdatelle
Your right Brian. I have marks on my saw for where I have to set it. Also you have to use the same blade that your actually going to use on the final cutout. Jim suggested a #5 polar. and make sure it's a new blade.
