Kragax Posted November 21, 2017 Report Share Posted November 21, 2017 I have been experimenting with some puzzles and had trouble with some chip outs do to the softness of the wood. So in my infinite wisdom thought Id try something. I got some 1" oak and started another puzzle. HA! I wont be doing that again soon. I got it done and it turned out nice but what a lot of work that was. I looked at the hardness scale and found oak in the 1300's. Guess I need to back down a few notches. White oak is tough but I still haven't had too much trouble with it.. though I haven't cut a lot of white oak.. Now.. Jatoba I think is the name also known as Brazilian Cherry.. I think rocks would cut better than that stuff, LOL I've cut some zebra wood and purple heart that is also some dense wood.. but nothing even close to that Brazilian Cherry LOL Jim McDonald 1 Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

My blade of choice for oak in a Pegas MG in either #3 or #5. Try the same puzzle using 3/4 oak and one of those blades. By the way what kind of wood is chipping out on you? Kragax Posted November 22, 2017 Author Report Share Posted November 22, 2017 I was a piece of cedar. The oak was white and worked good just too hard. My Hawk curt it but I don't like it much. NC Scroller Posted November 22, 2017 Report Share Posted November 22, 2017 Eastern red cedar is very brittle. It is subject to cracking and splitting. Western cedar is soft.
