Popular Post Canuck45 Posted November 29, 2017 Popular Post Report Posted November 29, 2017 Well I thought I would try doing letters. I used this pattern from Steve Good's site. It is done with 1/4" birch and the backing was made from old pieces of pallets I had laying around. The backer was stained with one quick coat and wiped off immediately to give the appearance of weathered wood. I finished it with spray gloss lacquer, not sure it shows in the picture or not. I noticed after I placed the letters that I was off on my squareness but oh well I think it still turned out pretty good. JimErn, Phantom Scroller, Kriss63 and 8 others 11 Quote
DWSUDEKUM Posted November 29, 2017 Report Posted November 29, 2017 Very nicely done. Letters can be difficult to do. Thanks for sharing this with us. DW Quote
wombatie Posted November 29, 2017 Report Posted November 29, 2017 Looks great. Letters are so hard to get perfect and so are long straight lines, even with practice they can still be a pain in the neck. Marg Quote

meflick Posted November 29, 2017 Report Posted November 29, 2017 Looks great. I still cringe at the thought of doing letters. Quote
bobscroll Posted November 29, 2017 Report Posted November 29, 2017 Great job on your plaque! You did well on the letters I think! Thank you for showing, Bob Quote
jerry1939 Posted November 29, 2017 Report Posted November 29, 2017 Looks great. You mentioned Squareness". When I cut out a word(s), I am careful about the waste wood. Leave a few reference lines. When gluing the letters to backer, I put down craft sticks, set the waste on top, glue the bottom of each letter & drop it into place. Let the glue dry & lift off the waste. The reason the waste is propped up is to prevent the squeeze out from gluing down the waste. Canuck45 and Dave Monk 1 1 Quote
don watson Posted November 30, 2017 Report Posted November 30, 2017 Very nice indeed. Well done. Don W Quote
Lucky2 Posted December 2, 2017 Report Posted December 2, 2017 Brian, I think it looks very nice, nobody would notice it being off centered. It's not the cutting of letters that I mind, it's the actual placing of them that I dislike so much. Len Quote

Dave Monk Posted December 4, 2017 Report Posted December 4, 2017 Looks good. I think is good to be critical or your own work. That's what makes a guy better. Quote
