nrscroller Posted November 30, 2017 Report Posted November 30, 2017 Hi I am looking for a fine pen or marker than won't bleed on baltic birch ply to mark my ornaments when I give them to people. My duaghter has a nice american crafts precision pen but I have no where to buy them where I live. Suggesions for a type at Walmart, we have one here. Thanks Bill Quote
Phantom Scroller Posted November 30, 2017 Report Posted November 30, 2017 Try the new Papermate inkjoy gel 0.7 pen doesn't smudge. Quote
Jim McDonald Posted November 30, 2017 Report Posted November 30, 2017 I always spray a couple of coats of lacquer on the piece to seal the wood and sign with a fine Sharpie®. Then a quick overcoat and I'm ready to go. tomsteve and wombatie 2 Quote
redwine Posted November 30, 2017 Report Posted November 30, 2017 I agree with Jim, spray a coat of lacquer than use a fine point pen than seal it with another coat or 2 and your finished! Erv Quote
WayneMahler Posted November 30, 2017 Report Posted November 30, 2017 I do what Jim does. I seal mine then sign them. Lightly sand them with 220 sign then apply a final top coat. Quote
woodknots Posted November 30, 2017 Report Posted November 30, 2017 I always use wood burner before i put finish on. Quote
NC Scroller Posted December 1, 2017 Report Posted December 1, 2017 India Ink pens like this: https://www.amazon.com/Pitt-Artist-Pen-Black-Fine/dp/B00OQFR0OE/ref=sr_1_12?ie=UTF8&qid=1512089398&sr=8-12&keywords=india+ink+pens Lucky2 1 Quote
kmmcrafts Posted December 1, 2017 Report Posted December 1, 2017 I use a Sharpie as well.. that said.. I've used a few different types of fine point Sharpie's and this is my favorite one.. The others I used would bleed out into the wood.. I think due to the fact that they put the ink on too heavy.. These in the link are the best I've found so far.. https://www.amazon.com/Sharpie-Fine-Point-Black-1742661/dp/B001CS1QC0/ref=sr_1_4?s=arts-crafts&ie=UTF8&qid=1512090964&sr=1-4&keywords=sharpie+fine+point Lucky2 1 Quote
orangeman Posted December 1, 2017 Report Posted December 1, 2017 Pigma Micron pens will do the job. WalMArt has them on their website - don't know about the stores. Michael's, Hobby Lobby, and JoAnn's should have. Bought mine at Michael's. https://www.amazon.com/s/?ie=UTF8&keywords=black+micron+pen&tag=googhydr-20&index=aps&hvadid=174263046953&hvpos=1t1&hvnetw=g&hvrand=15514013717601503630&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=b&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9010843&hvtargid=kwd-3771046245&ref=pd_sl_9fl5paz7lq_b bb Lucky2 1 Quote

CharleyL Posted December 3, 2017 Report Posted December 3, 2017 Coat your project with a clear finish first. Then, after the finish is fully dry, your markers will not bleed when applied. I use clear spray lacquer on my reindeer before applying the eyes and red nose with Sanford Sharpie marking pens. I don't sign the reindeer or my 3D ornaments because I haven't been able to do it successfully without it detracting from the appearance. Charley Quote
