OCtoolguy
This sounds like a good deal on a Delta scroll saw. Ebay, free shipping, under $400. https://www.ebay.com/itm/Delta-Power-Tools-40-694-20-In-Variable-Speed-Scroll-Saw/332465428894?epid=2254908595&hash=item4d687bd99e:g:osUAAOSwPIhaHfdU Ray

That's even better. I wonder why the Dewalt version is so much more.

Cuz dewalt thinks there fancy yellow paint is worth more. As you can guess I am not a fan of dewalt. They sell a good tool but way overprice for the level of quality . in other words terrible value. I never owned there scroll saw my opinion is based on being in construction for 25 years. Just my two cents. OCtoolguy

I never thought that Delta was any better though. I had a lot of the bigger Delta stuff but that was back when I had money coming in every week. Now, well, it's Harbor Freight and Craigslist for me. So far, I have bought all my shop tools used and gotten pretty good deals. Living in So.Cal. there are a lot of things on Craigslist near me. Did you see the ad for the Excalibur 30" saw that I posted. I wish I had room for another saw. Ray

I do think 280 290 whatever for the delta is well worth it. At least if you don't like it you didn't spend 500 or so like the dewalt. And from what I hear it's the same saw. If I get up in that five hundred range I'm just going to go for excalibur. I'm using a porter cable I got for 180 bucks and I couldn't be happier with it. But when the time comes I will upgrade. Ray, these saws are supposedly made with cheaper components, they were made that way on purpose. They were made with cheaper components, so that they could be sold for less. The intent was to try to convince people to buy these saws, instead of the other lower priced options in the market. This info was released when they first introduced the saws, I haven't heard much about them since then. Len OCtoolguy

What the heck is happening to our country?

Also consider the fact that while the Delta is supposedly the same saw .. is the fact that they don't hold much of a resale value.. take a look at all the used Deltas prices.. and then the supposed same saw in a different color ( DeWalt) .. A used 10+ year old DeWalt brings in about as much $$ as what the saw sold new for way back then...The new Delta DeWalt clones.. often times won't bring $150 used.. There has been one on eBay that had been relisted 4 times at $150 and it looked barely used.. Had that been yellow.. people would have been all over that like fly's on poop, LOL OCtoolguy and blights69

What the heck is happening to our country? Unfortunately the Delta name started falling quite a few years ago.. and they had started cheapening up many of their tools way back in the very late 1990's early 2000.. They also got a bad rap for discontinuing many parts for their equipment many years ago.. in hopes of getting people to purchase new.. Take a look at the parts list for their DeWalt clone.. some of those parts already show discontinued obsolete etc.. I imagine you could just buy the part for the dewalt..and use it on the Delta of they really are the same saw... Anyway.. the perverting of the name is something Delta did all by themselves long ago.. many people seem to think it still holds some good value.. but get burned when they need a part.. Woodmaster1
I have the Delta and it has been a great saw for me with no issues. I don't foresee any major problems unless I misuse the saw. I ordered extra blade clamp screws and got them in less than a week. At the price they are going for it is cheaper to buy a new one than replacing parts. OCtoolguy
crupiea
When i first started i bought a ryobi saw off of ebay with free overnight shipping. It was like $50. The shipping alone was probably more than that. It shoed up the next day right on schedule. I saw it had a home depot sticker on it like it was a return but it was brand new. I used it for about a month and a piece broke off on it. No way to order that piece so I figured I would pack it back up and see what home depot would do about it. Worth a shot anyway. Told them it was a gift. They exchange it for me to my surprsie so now I not only had a new one, I had a receipt for it. That one also broke in the same area after about a month so back I went. This time they carried them but had delta shopmaster instead so they exchange me for that. I used that saw for years and really liked it, not the best but did the job. One day I was looking at craigslist and a guy had just posted a dewalt for $135. Went and bought it the next morning, brand new, still had the coating on the table top and the original blade in it. So i have spent not even $200 for my saws and have been doing this for like 15 years. not bad. Hoping to stumble into a hegner this same way but of course, after 15 years still waiting for that to happen. OCtoolguy
