kmmcrafts
In another thread about the "New" Delta saw being on sale I had mentioned about one being on eBay for $150 and had been re-listed several times.. This is the saw that is no more than a DeWalt with grey paint and Delta badge on it.. Not the newer one that is slightly different.. Could be a good deal for someone looking for a cheap saw or even a parts machine for their DeWalt.. Not quite sure why nobody has bought it yet.. Yellow with a DeWalt badge would have been gone on the guys first time round at listing it.. The listing says little use.. I guess that might be a matter of opinion as to how much "little" use means.. Table looks like it has some wear spots.. etc.. betting my version of " little " use is a bit different than his. :) Anyway.. here is the link.. https://www.ebay.com/itm/Delta-40-690-20-Variable-Speed-Scroll-Saw-With-Base/162788078115?epid=1109094788&hash=item25e6ecf223:g:NZsAAOSwK~RaDbtt
stoney
Maybe the word is getting around about Delta's reputation of only supporting their products for a short period of time. I know Delta and Dewalt are or were under the Black and Decker umbrella but Delta seems to be the worst for support and replacement parts availability. I had a Delta P20 and they told me sorry we no longer support that saw. I guess that means if you buy one of their products and they for what ever reason decide to stop supporting it you are just sh*# out of luck. JustLarry
The 40-690 listed is identical to the one I use except I have the stand and light in storage building. I have no problems with the saw except the brief periods of maintenance takes me away from cutting. If it was not so far to travel, I would make it two 40-690s in the shop. The 40-690 is as Kevin states, is a grey 788. So identical that the part numbers are the same as the 788 (except for the decals). I have looked at parts list at Delta, Dewalt, ereplacements and others. So I firmly state that as long as parts are available for the Dewalt 788, parts for the Delta 40-690 will be available. OCtoolguy
I just had to check this one out. It seems that the $150 price is a "starting bid". So far there are no bids. I'll bet the seller has a minimum bid on this and it won't sell for this price. Ray

I just had a very pleasant experience with B&D. We had purchased a cordless vac from Amazon of that brand and it started slowing down and not holding a charge. So, I called them to find out how to get a battery for it. They told me that the batteries are not a service item and not available. So, I asked the girl whether the buyer should just "trash" their $80 vacuum. She said no, they would replace it. But, that particular one was no longer available and it would be replaced with the newer version. The old one was 12 volt and the new one is 20 volt lithium with a charging base. It is much more powerful. All this at no charge. So, at this point in time, I'm not afraid to buy B&D stuff. Ray I've been watching it for 3-4 weeks now..and there has been no reserve price.. and not one person has bid on it.. so who knows.. but it just hasn't sold.. I'm thinking if the seller would offer to ship it.. it'd probably sell.. I wonder if anyone has even asked.. many times you can talk a seller into shipping something they didn't want to ship.. My situation was quite a bit different. When a Delta rep. as much as told me I can't help you with parts for a $500. scroll saw that was enough for me. They didn't offer to replace my scroll saw. Oh, and by the way I have several more Delta tools that I have absolutely no idea if I can get replacement parts for if I need them. Needless to say I won't be buying anymore Delta tools. Is your saw a Delta or a Dewalt? I've lost sight of who has what saw. Did you ever get the problem rectified?

No Ray I didn't get any thing out of Delta but the Rep told me maybe I could try e.replacement for the parts. Nice Huh? OCtoolguy

Nice Huh? I take it your saw was out of warranty. That's a sad situation but understandable in the world we live in now. Nobody wants to put any money into inventory. It all depends on what comes in on the boats from China/Taiwan. My wife was just saying the other day, she finds something she really likes and goes back to buy more and is told that whatever the item is, they are no longer in stock and no more will be coming. It's a one time order and what sells, sells. Fact of life. SAD.
ScollSaw Slasher
Having used both E-bay and Craig's list. I'd never offer free shipping on that item or for that matter put it on E-bay. The expense and the good possibility of the shipping gorillas destroying the saw in transit is a distinct possibility. Been very successful in liquidating many of my major woodworking tools through Craig's list. Cash and Carry! As to the saw itself, I have one and it's been great. After squaring it up out of the box, it has been a cutting banshee. Have used some extremely hard wood in my intarsia work with no problem. Still have yet to service it but it's nice to know that parts whether from Delta or Dewalt are still available. OCtoolguy
