Hey Ike.  If you are using a finish that is thinned or cleaned up by mineral spirits ( like poly, tung oil, danish oil........) you can finish immediately.  No need to let it dry.  Now if you finish with a water based product or lacquer or shellac it must dry first.

I went to shelf liner also. I do a lot of smaller pieces for ornaments, I just turn the shelf paper over, lay my wood on it and cut around the wood with an exacto and then peel off and stick on wood. Spray pattern with super 77 and put it on the wood. Comes off so much eaiser for intricate things
