qlty
All the filler I've made with saw dust and glue hasn't taken stain very well it always resists the stain and does not result in a good finish match of the wood.Is there a special glue out there to use for better results? If not whats a good wood filler on the market and how do you use it?Perhaps pre staining the filler before applying It ?? Kepy
I've seen a wood glue that claims to be stainable (maybe Elmer's).
wdkits1
I use white glue mixed with fine sawdust for use when filling small cracks if the wood is to be kept natural color. If the wood is to be stained I use the same procedure before staining but then I sand it down after the filler is dry then mix a little stain with wipe on satin poly and using a foam brush dab it on to cover the filled area. Once the poly is dry it can be sanded and re-applied if necessary. I do this when repairing furniture where I'm trying to match the original color. Works great. Vector01
When I used to repair gun stocks, I used Elmers white glue and mix some sandings from the gun stock. This worked great for small cracks and dings I couldn't raise with a damp cloth and an iron. If the area is large maybe some wood filler would work.
