I know there are some folks using and loving this saw. Just saw it on C/L.

Hi Ray,

I have one of those and it is now my only saw.  I bought a second hand Type 1 DW788 which is rare as hen's teeth here in NZ but it died on me after three months.   The Q3 keeps on going.  I did break the tension lever but luckily was still able to get a  spare although shipping from the US was outrageous.

From the look of the blade clamps I would say that is one of the earlier Type 1 machines.  At that price , I think it is a bargain but being a "C" arm saw, the cut is very aggressive.  Makes the DW788 look like a pussy cat.  Wrong voltage for me and far too far away, otherwise I would have it!

That saw is a bargain. I'm amazed that nobody has bought it yet. I have one, and would be buying this one if it was on the East Coast. I bought my Q3 new and it has been a work horse. My only complaint with it is that the blade clamps aren't as user friendly as the ones on the DeWalt 788, which I also have. The Q3 has a slightly more aggressive cut because of the rocking motion of the C frame design, which can be a great benefit over the 788 when production cutting.

Thanks Charley, I'm looking at a Sakura right now and have emailed the seller but if I miss that one, I might just go for the Q3.

A Q3 will be harder to do those tight corners with... just sayin :)  The more aggressive the cut... the harder it will be in doing intricate cuts and tight corners etc.. This is why if I was in the market for a new saw.. I'd be looking at the ones that have the adjustable blade forward / back motion.. EX, Seyco, Newer Hawks 1998 ish or newer..

I would love to have one of those high dollar saws. I would also love to be able to justify the cost to my wife. She will just say, what do you need another saw for? And such an expensive one? You know how that is. Anyway, I would love to be like Steve Good and have one of every decent saw that is made. I'm following along closely here on SSV to try to gain all the little tidbits of info on the weak and strong points of each saw. If I am understanding you correctly, the old Hawks are still a very good saw? Of course the Seycos and the Ex's are way out there but there are a lot of older Hawks and they can be picked up pretty cheap. What I want to know is, at what point do they become not upgradeable? Is there a year that I should be looking for that will give me all the option availability? I guess the Hegners might be the same way so I would need to know the same thing about them. Thanks to everybody up until now who have managed to fill in a lot of blanks.

The forward/back motion of the blade on a Q3 saw is almost nothing at the table level, so cutting corners on thin work is  no problem at all. If you cut thick wood or stack cut it can pose a slight problem when making tight turns, but up to about 1" thick I have never had a problem at all.  The price of this saw is lower than the total crap cheap saws that are being sold, so this is a huge leap in quality of saw and a great bargain for anyone getting started in scrolling. Only when they start to stack cut or compound cut will they begin to wish they had a different saw. I have compound cut work up to 1 1/4" thick with my Q3 and had acceptable results.  It will likely be a long time before a new or casual user ever reaches the point where this saw will not do what they want. This is a huge bargain for someone like this.

I'm still thinking Charley. You have piqued my interest and I might just throw an offer at the seller after Christmas. I'm still waiting hear back from the seller of the Sakura but he is obviously not monitoring his email.
