jbrowning
Hello, I was checking to see if you all thought this was a good deal or not? It is about 45 minutes from where I live. Will these Hegner's outlive me? Hegner Thanks Jim
stoney
The saw looks really good if the pictures are recent. It has the up front tension release which is good. The price sounds reasonable. Parts are available which is a good thing. I don't know if it will outlive you but they do last a long time. kmmcrafts
From what I see in the pictures.. seems like a good deal.. I want to try one someday and when the right deal pops up in my area on one I think I will buy it... OCtoolguy
jbrowning
Thank you Al, I received an email from the person selling it. And he says. "I bought the saw at an auction so I can't tell you its history but I can say it is in excellent condition. There are no issues with it." jbrowning
I just got a little more info on it. The plate says it's a Multimax-18 Universal Precision Saw, Mach. No. 415947, Year is 1999. Does anyone happen to know what the life expectancy is of these saws if they are taken care of well? I'm going to be seeing him on Sunday. tonylumps
Jump on it before I drive from Pa to get it. Has every extra that you could buy for it.I paid 700.00 about 2 years ago for the same set up Mine is a 1998.And thought it was a steal then Edited December 27, 2017 by tonylumps OCtoolguy and stoney
Sycamore67
The life expectancy on a Hegner with maintenance is a really long time. The only thing on my 1996 is a couple of drops of oil every so often. OCtoolguy and stoney

tonylumps
They have not changed the Basic saw in 30 years. There are no bearings to replace just 2 bronze bushings The only thing that could go bad is the motor .And that could cost as much as a Dewalt Scroll Saw.But I have never heard of one that went bad. My saw is a 1998 I bought it from the original owner and it is the original motor.I cut a lot of 3/4 hardwood on that saw and never skipped a beat. jbrowning
Thank you Tony, I normally cut 3/4" hardwood for animal puzzles. I will be so happy if it runs as nice as it looks. OCtoolguy

jbrowning
And a foolish question. But Flying Dutchman blades will work on this saw correct? OCtoolguy
jbrowning
Well I just finished emailing Wolfgang Derke and sent him a few pictures of it and he said jump on it. That's a heck of a deal and it looks like it has had very little use. OCtoolguy

Scrappile
If it runs good, that is a great deal. That saw has the few upgrades that Hegner has done, the tension release in the front upper arm and the table that accepts inserts. Looks good. Just remember, and I think most Hegner owners will agree with me, Hegners take a learning curve, tension is important, get the manual, and read it. https://www.advmachinery.com/pages/about-us and one of these is very nice, to me a necessity to have; https://www.advmachinery.com/products/hegner-quickclamp The saw even has the optional bracket to hold a magnifying light. I'd like to have one but too cheap to buy theirs. I plan on making one. If it was close to me you would already be too late to buy it. I would have 3 scroll saws! OCtoolguy
It sure sounds like you found a great deal. And a great seller. Best of luck with your new saw. By the way, my son and his wife live in the Springs near Academy and Carefree if I recall correctly. Ray
Rob
I would buy that in a heartbeat. I have a feeling that come Sunday you won't be able to wipe the smile off your face for a week! Rob OCtoolguy
