What Part Of The Village Do You Visit The Most?

I recently seen a couple of topics that mentioned "only a couple people commented " or only a few people even liked my post.. which I've also noticed that sometimes topics are quiet while other are very active..

I come to the village and the first place I check out is the "general scroll saw" topic heading.. I rarely go into the bragging section or most any of the other sections.. sometimes I'll scroll through the list to the bottom of the main forums page and look to see if there is any main topics headings that look interesting.. but rarely open up that main category unless that topic title looks interesting.. then when i do open it.. I find many other topics that look interesting..

Anyway.. I guess I should explore more here.. but for some reason.. I barely go off to the other categories off of the "general" scroll saw talk one..  I read a post the other day somewhere that some people mentioned they mainly go to the bragging section.. which got me thinking about what others main interest here on the village is..?? What part of the village do you visit the most? Maybe this should be a poll of some sort.. me posting this just in the General section might not be seen to those that mainly just go to the bragging or other sections, LOL

When I log in I go straight to General Scroll Sawing. Look at the list and open what catches my eye first, then the rest sometimes. Next forum I go to is Coffee House to see whats there. Sometimes there are some pretty good jokes or pictures. I'll look at the pattern requests and help if I can. That is basically my visits here.

Ditto.

But one thing that doesn't work well for me by going straight to the "Unread Content" button is that - once read - the thread disappears - meaning - that if I want to revisit a particular thread I need to go searching for it in the forum that it was produced - sometimes a bit of a chore when I don't pay attention to what forum it came from.

I always start at the General scrolling forum and then wander to others in no order. I do visit the bragging section and I feel so bad many times that I do not open everyones' projects and make a comment. If i do see something I like I will post to it. I know it makes people feel good the more posts they get but it is human nature not to comment more often. We all do not have the same interests. The like button is nice but even that is like well I looked but have nothing to say so why bother. Not fair to the people posting for sure but hope all understand. If I posted in any forum I always try to check if there are comments or questions that I need to address. Other than that I visit a couple times a day if possible. This site is probably one of the best and most active scrolling sites so it is a nice visit. You do find the same people always partaking and wish others would jump in. Anyway happy scrolling.

Last year I started with General. I'd go down the list skipping a few such as Intarsia. A few weeks ago I opened Intarsia and was amazed at how much I missed. Now I start at the top and check each section for unread topics. I will admit (guilty) that some posts seem to be "more of the same" and I will only occasionally read those.

Unfortunately the mobile site doesn't seem to provide an unread topics button.

Oh, if I'm short on time I jump right to the Coffee House to see if Jerry or Paul, aka save the beer, has posted.

Have mine set up so when I click it in my "Tool Bar Bookmarks" it go does the "Unread Content" search and only brings up the posts that have been made since my last visit.   I also click the "Mark Site Read" button so I get a fresh start each time I open the site.

Maybe I should learn the site a little better, LOL... I didn't know this was an option.. Thanks for commenting.. It's interesting to see how others view the site..

I come to the General Scroll Saw section and I know I spend way too much time there. With that said, I might stray to the University section to watch a video on Inkscape but that's about it for me. My butt is growing wider and wider from all the sitting. If my wife didn't make me get up and accompany her on a walk, I'd get no exercise at all.

Believe it or not I'm retired and have been for going on 13 years but I still can't believe how little spare time I seem to have.   When I visit I usually hit the General forum and if I don't have anything to contribute to the new threads and have time may go to the bragging forum.   I'm a hunt a peck typist so that is an other issue I must contend with.

So, I come and just want to see all the latest "activity", regardless of where it is in the forum.  I just want it all in one place, so I simply have a shortcut to go here:  http://www.scrollsawvillage.com/discover/

This is the same as going to "Activity", then clicking "All Activity."

I usually check out the notifications section along with checking to see if I have gotten any e-mails first, then I go on to the general section. From there, I move on to bragging an then on down the line. There is a couple of sections that don't really interest me, and I just pass them by. I used to feel guilty for passing on a couple of sections, but I got over the feeling because as I mentioned they just don't interest me. In the sections I read, I do read all of the replies. I usually spend well over an hour on here daily, and I never miss viewing the site daily.

Because 90% or more of my woodworking (I'm working on a fireplace mantel, a sofa table, and just turned a Bishop for a chess set where a dog thought it looked tasty) would fall under Other Woodworks that's where I start. Then Coffee House,  I'm interested in stuff other than jokes. General Scroll Sawing is next. IMHO that section seems to have the most visits/subjects, even subjects that clearly belong elsewhere. Finally, a quick look at Bragging Rights, Works in Progress / Tutorials and New Patterns to see if there's anything of interest to me.

I've visited that Q & A and few times and while I'd give SSV (and Travis) really high marks for a well run and interesting place, that section doesn't work for me. I guess it's because so many questions don't have definitive or authoritative answers. There are a large number of threads about which blade(s) to use. I think the type of wood, it's thickness, grain, the saw, the pattern, the experience of the cutter and just some of the variables.

Finally, I think I spend too much time on woodworking forums and not enough time in my shop.

I pretty much hit them all. ;) I don't want to miss anything. :smitten: I love the Bragging and Intarsia sections because I love seeing everybody's  work. Since my initial interest was Intarsia, I like seeing the projects shared there. I love the help and tips and information shared in the General Section and elsewhere. I checkout the other woodworking section to see what else others are doing besides scrolling and have shared some pics of my hubby's projects there as well.  I like the patterns area, seeing what people share, ask for, and seeing the different patterns that are provided and seeing how they did it.   I love the coffee shop and jokes and friendships and checking in and wishing happy. Irthdays that occur there. I pop-in and out as time permits and I check threads I haven't read since last visit. Really doesn't take too long unless I miss a day. I always mark the sections and forum as read so next time I come visit, it's only ones with added comments or new posts that show with new activity.
