Clayton717 Posted July 31, 2010 Report Posted July 31, 2010 Well here is the completed project. I finished it with 2 coats of satin polyurathane. The woods used are - walnut, wenge, and spalted cottonwood. Quote
wdkits1 Posted August 2, 2010 Report Posted August 2, 2010 That came our really nice Clayton. Beautiful workmanship! Quote
Huntter2022 Posted August 3, 2010 Report Posted August 3, 2010 very nice job ! the cottonwood really makes the horns look really thanks for sharing it with us Quote
Clayton717 Posted August 3, 2010 Author Report Posted August 3, 2010 Thanks David. the plan(pattern) called for all walnut even the horns, but I thought they would look better in a lighter wood. I had the spalted cottonwood laying there and thought it was a perfect use. Quote
Travis Posted August 3, 2010 Report Posted August 3, 2010 That turned out great! I enjoyed your WIP thread. It was fun watching that come together. I agreee, the cottonwood was a great choice. Nicely done! Quote
amazingkevin Posted August 3, 2010 Report Posted August 3, 2010 Well i'm on my third or forth intarsia and still can't get close to the kind of work your turning out.Must be nice to be at the top! lol.Your seams are so close that a feeler gauge probably would'nt fit in to measure the gap, lol. They fit like a glove!I'm keeping a close eye on everything you do intarsia wise.Keep letting the cat out of the bag with your tips and tricks i thrive on everyone of them .By the way i'd rather have your bull on my wall than a real deers head!I hope you start designing your own patterns of wild life so you too can laugh all the way to the bank!Another fine job by clayton717 Quote
Clayton717 Posted August 3, 2010 Author Report Posted August 3, 2010 Thanks Travis and Kevin. I've got one more intarsia project to do that is sold, then I'm hoping to do a couple scrolling projects I keep pushing to the back burner. Then back to intarsia. I have to get a couple finished projects to show. I was asked to do a lecture (for lack of a better word) for the local woodworkers guild in January. I was recomended buy the guy I buy all my wood from. Again thanks for all the kind words. Quote
susieq4131 Posted August 4, 2010 Report Posted August 4, 2010 That is gorgeous! I have never tried intarsia, just a few segmentations. Excellent job! SQ Quote
Vector01 Posted August 4, 2010 Report Posted August 4, 2010 Just perfect. The wood selection and cut are excellent. Quote
grampa Posted August 5, 2010 Report Posted August 5, 2010 Thats great Clayton, veeeery nice, Thanks for WIP I have tried Intarsia a few times but I can't get my joints nice and tight, when I sand the piece to fit I take off to much in one place and end up bouncing it off the wall I think I will leave it to the experts.......Paul Quote
