heppnerguy
I just came off Steve Good's site and saw where he posted that the EX 21 is coming back on the market once more and that it is available from Home Depoe now. If you wish to check this out. Steve Goods site is www.scrollsawworkshop.blogspot.com Dick heppnerguy lawson56 and OCtoolguy 1
JTTHECLOCKMAN
I bet that is not going to last. I do not believe I see any more scrollsaws in Home Depot. Maybe an on line item. Boy next time I am in Homer I have to take a gander at what they sell. $900 saw in HD. odd. NC Scroller
I hate to be negative but I think the jury is still out. While it is called an EXCALIBUR and looks like one I hope it is of equal or better quality then the old ones. I own and love my EXCALIBUR so I hope the answer is yes. I also have concerns, but not so much on quality. Seyco bet their business on these guys, and boy did they pay when the channel dried up. I don't know what it would take to get Seyco to sell the EX again. If they do not support the new saws, then that hurts the EX badly. Now Seyco has their own branded saw, they probably don't see any reason of taking a chance on General again. If there isn't a good support model around the Excalibur brand, might as well go with the King/Excelsior. This might be a good opportunity for another "Seyco" to arise and take that business. I got my hands on a Seyco, and it is a good saw, but it is not a better saw in my opinion. Given a choice, I like the Ex. I noticed that Rockler also is carrying the EX as is Sears. Home Depot has always carried more stuff online than they do in their stores, and carried the EX prior, as well as just junk Chinese brands. Patents are only good for 20 years, so I think a lot of the patents are expiring, including the ones for the DW788. How cool would it be to see someone tweak the design of the 788 and put some quality bearings in that design. That could be a game changer. ---------Randy Edited January 25, 2018 by hotshot JTTHECLOCKMAN, OCtoolguy, stoney and 2 others
heppnerguy
We will all learn as time goes, if Steve Good is right about this. I am in hopes that the EX16k will be as good as the EX has been until it jumped off the market. I am going to hold my breath and wait and see what happens here. I like that it is a possibility and I am not going to go against the grain, myself until I hear some reports. I also think it would be a little far fetched to see Seyco selling it, after having put their own brand on the market. Although Seyco is known for their great service does not mean there can be others with the same commitment just waiting for the right timing to come along.. By the same token, jumping to conclusions before it is on the market is perhaps like those that said Apple is dead because of Microsoft taking over the computer market a few years back while watching Apple struggle to hold onto their share of the market. OCtoolguy
I'm wondering if the "K" in the part number denotes that it's actually a King/Excelsior. Seems strange to put a "k" in any number. Ray

Makes me wonder how many perspective buyers are turned away from the Dewalt788 by reading about their bearing and on/off switch issues, Plus the fact if you want the upper arm lift it has to be an aftermarket add on.
