New member here to the forum from Las Vegas.  Been woodworking for a little while now and during that time I made a chess board for my son for his birthday.  When it came time to make the pieces I found I could make them all on a scroll saw, so that's how I got into scrolling.  Still getting the hang of it making my kids other projects before working up to the compound cuts, but it's a lot of fun and have also taught my older son (7 years old) how to scroll and he likes it a lot as well.

Here is a not so great photo of the chess board before finishing it.

Welcome to the Village from East. Tennessee.  You will love it here and the scroll saw is a great tool to help make things for your kiddos.  It's great that you have already gotten your oldest son interested and started with it.  We look forward to your participation here and to seeing more of your work and your son's. Your chess board looks very nice.  When you get ready to try some compound cuts - look around as there are some free patterns to be found to work with to get the hang of it.  I just tried some compound cuts before Christmas.  They could be addicting.

Welcome to The Village. I live in Casa Grande, Arizona, which is about 25 minutes south of Phoenix. If you travel our  way, be sure and let me know and perhaps you can make an extra stop and have lunch of dinner with  my wife and I. Glad you found us. Hey I will even give you a chance to destroy me in a game of chess, if you like.  Nice board you made. I hope it is getting used well
