jbrowning
I'm going to start cutting our my first freehand picture jigsaw puzzle. There won't be anything on top of the picture and I know that the blade needs to cut on the down stroke so I don't tear the picture. Does someone have a picture of what the blade should look like for this. This picture is 11x17 and it is on 1/4" BB plywood and I will be using the FD Superior Puzzle Blade. Thank you all in advance. Here is a copy of the picture I will be cutting out. Jim Edited March 8, 2018 by jbrowning
kmmcrafts
Those blades are so small I'm not sure you'll see the teeth to know what way is down anyway.. I've cut a few of these jigsaw puzzles several years ago.. What I do is run my finger on the blade to see what way the teeth are. running the finger down the teeth in both directions to see what way is rough feeling.. Those FD puzzle blades are awesome for doing these puzzles.. OCtoolguy and GrampaJim 1
fredfret
I use a magnifier to see the teeth. Most of the time i use my thumb nail to feel the direction of the teeth if the blade dosn't catch the teeth are going the direction of movement if it catches the teeth are going the other way. The thumb nail even works with 8/0 jewelers blades. Fredfret OCtoolguy and NC Scroller 1
Dan
Thumb nail works. You can also pull it across the edge of paper. It will catch more in one direction than the other.
jbrowning
And the direction it catches on is the direction the cut happens, correct?
kmmcrafts
Yes the down stroke would be your cutting stroke so the teeth need to face downward. or holding the blade at the top and run your finger up from the bottom would be he rough way.. Hope that made sense LOL I get myself confused talking about it I just do it naturally.. but thinking about it gets me confused. LOL
