Scrappile
There was a recent thread here about blade storage. I had this setup which worked great until I out grew it. So I went with this: The little plastic test tube holder cost me $8. It will hold 60 tubes. Took me 2 minutes 26 seconds to put together. Purchased off Ebay as were the tubes... the tubes are a little over $6 for 25. All free shipping. Okay, so now I need to deal with the little drill bit srorage. Scrappile, that's what I bought first from Amazon. Just like that with 60 tubes and stand for $16 if I recall. Anyway, I find that the tubes are too close together. That's why I started that last thread about blade storage. I have seen a few great ideas on here so far. I like the one that Steve Good made but if I make it, I'm going to expand it and make it for a dozen tubes and elevate the second row so the tubes are more visible and can be read easier. I see you have a collection of blades like mine. Brands, sizes, tooth configurations......it gets a bit confusing at times. At least for me being so new to this hobby. I'm trying to do too much at once, I know. But, that's the way I am and always have been. I'm not good at a slow learning curve. I want to know it all right away. Anyway, I just thought I'd throw that out there. Thanks for your post. Ray SCROLLSAW703
kmmcrafts
Years ago I bought my tubes and storage tray thing from maybe Rockler? It was for blade storage and the plastic tray is made to elevate each row.. ( kind of like stadium seating ) .. I can't remember now but seems like it holds 16 tubes.. Though not nearly as cheap as you all are making them for.. Believe I paid like $24 for it.. Though I really like it.. My biggest complaint is.. I buy too many different style blades and don't seem to have enough spots in the holder. SCROLLSAW703 and OCtoolguy 1
Scrappile
I though about the tubes being too close, but thought I'd give it a try. I skipped a row between rows so it is really going to only hold 30 instead of 60. If (IF) I keep them in order by size , I'm hoping to be able to find what I am looking for. Coarse then there is the problem that when I add a new blade type/size, I have to rearrange every thing again.... Never a perfect solution. Well, except only use a couple different blades and not think I need so many different ones....... OCtoolguy and SCROLLSAW703 1
OCtoolguy
The way I see it, we can divide them up by mfgr. and that would be 3. Then by size. Then by tooth configuration. It can become very intimidating. I was thinking of making two of them so I could have one at each saw but I think I will just make one and move it back and forth. Someone is going to come up with the perfect one right after I make mine. It always happens. Ray SCROLLSAW703
Woodmaster1
I made a holder from Steve Good's design. OCtoolguy, SCROLLSAW703 and OzarkSawdust 2

SCROLLSAW703
I started puttin' my blades in pvc with capped ends from the start 26 yrs ago. And I took the blade size label off the little bag they come in & taped it to each tube. What the pia for me is, I've got so many different blade sizes in inventory, it takes about as long to find blades as it does to cut a project! I like your idea, scrappile, with the way you've got them set up. I've thought about gettin' me some of those tubes & makin' a wood box for them that you could close up when ya ain't usin' them. But time never lets me rest long enough to do that. NC Scroller and OCtoolguy 1
Scrappile
Well, I am not going to lose the box. I may end up going back to it. I got that box from Harbor Freight when i purchased a cheap set of carving tools. Never could make the carving tools carve anything nice, (must have been something wrong with them), but I have gotten quite a bit of use out of the box. Rockytime
I also bought turning tools from HF in a wood box. I only use the gouge. I should use the box. Thanks for the reminder. SCROLLSAW703 and OCtoolguy
DAdams
I have my blades stored in a old butcher block cutting boards that have wooden feet. I drew circles around the tubes I use to store my blades in on the top of the cutting board block and then I drilled the holes in rows to store the blade tubes.I have two different size tubes I store my blades in, so on one side of the cutting board block I have 2 rows of tubes and different size blade tubes on the other side of the cutting board block in 2 rows also.I will try to get some pictures of this storage unit I made so You can see it. new2woodwrk
I bought tubes from Amazon and made this out of peg board - just drilled larger holes - lots of room for expansion LOL OCtoolguy
preprius
I forgot to order the tubes. So I had to solve this using stuff around the house. Drinking straws. Scotch tape. Labels from Flying Dutchman. Office stapler. Small neodynium magnets. rustynail
Scrappile, I like your box Idea with the tubs. Here’s a thought for someone to make … A box that holds tubs, that pops them up when you lift the lid. Something like you find in drill bits. You have seen those metal boxes that lift the bits up for view when you lift the lid and they go from higher to lower and bigger and smaller. That way you get the best of both worlds. Just an idea for those that have some time on their hands. Richard OCtoolguy
OzarkSawdust
I did the Steve Good holder. I works well for me and sits nice on the side of my saw. OCtoolguy
