new2woodwrk
I'm testing out several home made "lightbox" methods and in doing so I've made a "Eureka" discovery. The setup: I'm using the same product piece to test the outcomes - the plate I made a few weeks ago: First picture of the product - background is brown paper I use for covering my benches: I built the first lightbox this morning out of a cardboard box and a white sheet. This is the product placed in the first lightbox - background white sheet: Here is my "Eurka" moment - while doing research for building a lightbox, I found this website: fotofuze.com. It's free to sign up, and they have a "pro" version you can pay for - but I'm cheap and I like free! I uploaded the photo from the first lightbox, followed their instructions (which took all of about 10 seconds or less) and here is the result: I think I'm liking this a lot! Thoughts? Thanks in advance for reading and offering your comments. 3Dface

While it was a great start.. the thing was made of cloth material.. and i had a hard time keeping the wrinkles from creating shadows and other distracting elements in the photos.. So.. I made just a cardboard box.. cut a large window in the sides..and taped white tissue paper over the windows.. I use the tripod lights that my Amazon lightbox came with to shine light through the windows.. I then bought a plastic poster board to tape to the top in the back and let it drape down with a natural curve at the back.. This has been by far the best box I've used so far.. Short of it being a little on the small side for photos of my "large" portrait cuttings ( 11 x 14 inch) .. I plan to get a larger box this year for the larger projects.. I do use the fotofuse web site.. and I have the pro version because I have over 2000 photos.. It is linked directly to my Etsy shop so once I edit the photos it will edit them for my automatically to my etsy shop.. That said.. I only recently went with the pro version because of my Handmade@Amazon site requires a certain size photo.. and fotofuze did that automatically for me.. with the upgrade.. it also resized the etsy photos for a nice large image when one hits the zoom button.. I think it's well worth the $5 for the larger photos. Once the photos are uploaded to the sites.. I can drop back to the free version.. new2woodwrk
Dan
Good job. There are many methods to get the same result. With most you can eliminate the need for accessing the internet and with many others you can eliminate post-processing with very good results. But find what works fir you. new2woodwrk
crupiea
I use a piece of white or black foam backer. I lay it on the floor and put the item on it and stand over it and take the pics. Seems to help get a nice straight angle without too much hassle. Tried hanging them on the wall but it never works out right. new2woodwrk
Scrappile
Personally I think that picture, because of the light wood, needs a dark background. I am not expert so test it. My little photo box came with a gray and blue back ground interchangeable. And of coarse there is a lot of personal preference in play with this like most things. new2woodwrk
Rockytime
Photography was my passion for many years. I shot with everything from a 4X5 Busch, twin lens Rolli, and everything on. For publication I agree quality photos are essential. The only camera I have now is my Samsung cell phone. How I love the new technology. When shooting inanimate objects I shoot them outside in natural light. new2woodwrk
