WayneMahler
I don't get any pop ups. You may want to try and clear your browser history files. Seen others including myself have issues because of that. OCtoolguy

Scrappile
I have ad blocker turned off on this site. The site gets money for those ads and they never interfere or bother me. OCtoolguy and stoney 1
Rockytime
I use an ad blocker. How does the Village get money from pop ups? If it does I can turn mine off. OCtoolguy
Scrappile
Les, I do not know that it has anything to do with pop-up. I think I spoke out of turn, thinking ads not pop-ups. I am conscious of Ad Blockers because of this thread: OCtoolguy
Brianr24
I'm not sure but I don't think this would be a pop up they get money for. This is something from amazon telling me I won or could win. Then it's impossible to close I have to exit back to my home screen. I could be wrong but just seems more like scam or virus. I'll bet it has nothing to do with Amazon. It doesn't sound like something they do. Ray
new2woodwrk
Sites get money from ads when someone clicks on the ad - it's called PPC, not when the ad pops up. They can also generate income by allowing the ads to be placed on their site but the meat of the income is usually from clicking the ads OCtoolguy
Travis
I haven't noticed any popups, but ads that show up depends on the user. Google tracks history and try to display ads that would be most applicable. But the "Win" something on Amazon sounds a bit sketchy. Amazon doesn't do that. But, if you do go to Amazon, then to another website, they might show an ad of something you were looking at on Amazon as an ad. But nothing like what you're describing. I'm not sure if you're experiencing it on other sites. But you might want to scan your system. There are browser hijackers that do things like that. I never heard of it on a phone, though. SSV does earn revenue from advertising. That's one of the ways we keep our lights on. Basically, we get paid for certain amount of ad impressions. Some ads are pay per click and get a little extra. Google controls those ads, though. SSV doesn't determine the ads. What a great segway. If anybody wants to support SSV and turn off the Google Ads, become a SSV Patron. It has a few other pirks too. You can find more information here. new2woodwrk
Roberta Moreton
No, this is a scam pop up that doesn’t let you do anything else. If you press close, you are taken somewhere else, if you close THAT page SSV is gone too. If you press the back arrow at the top of the screen 2 times (I use an iPad) it sometimes goes away. But is will be back.

Roberta and Brian, it sounds like your Browser has been “hacked” so to speak on your end on your device. See this thread here: http://www.scrollsawvillage.com/forums/topic/28592-hacked/ you probably need to delete your browser histories, remove cookies, and remove web site data to cleanup your device and get it back to working properly. I have had it happen and it is frustrating I know. Hopefully clearing out your history and. Okie s can resolve it for you. Roberta, that thread has a link to an Apple support document that that will give specifics on how to do for your iPad. Brian, not sure if your phone is Apple or not. If so, it would be pretty much same. they haven’t hacked your device per say, but have hacked your browser and is using redirecting software or something that latches on to your visit history here to give you those pop ups. Sycamore67
I have read about this pop up on several forums and it is associated with something you have gotten on your phone, tablet or computer. I have also read discussions about ad blockers and the effect on a site's revenue. Several have stated that because of the ad blockers they are considering if they can keep going because of the loss of revenue. They are also considering limiting people who are guests and not letting them see some content. Edited March 20, 2018 by Sycamore67
