Wipe it off with a rag best I can if still a little wet. Other then that I rub them together and it goes away pretty easy.

Goo Gone is what I use. I have also used an old pencil to "pick up" the pattern.  Just tap the edge to lift it off the surface. A little less sticky on the fingers.

I used to use blue painter's tape and a large glue stick. I would put glue on the tape and the back of the pattern. After I had the  pattern in place, I would take a paper towel or a rag and simply remove any over lapping glue on the blue tape with the paper towel or rag.  never have I had  a pattern come loose when cutting it if I glue both the tape and the pattern. Least expensive way to put the pattern on the wood also
