Popular Post Rockytime
I could never believe that packing tape lubricated blades. However, I did find a use for it. I was cutting a pattern out of Poplar. I was using a very dark portion of the board. As I was cutting the sawdust would remain on top of the pattern covering the pattern lines. The sawdust was dark and tended to stick to the paper pattern and the blower did not remove it adequately. I covered the pattern with packing tape and the slick surface allowed the blower to work flawlessly. That's my tape and I'm stick'n to it! tomsteve, jbrowning, MTCowpoke22 and 7 others 4
Roberta Moreton
I have done a test. When the wood I was cutting started burning, I added packing tape to the piece without removing the blade. I just stopped, taped and resumed cutting. The result was amazing! tomsteve and OCtoolguy 1
Rockytime
If it is working that is good. SCROLLSAW703, Roberta Moreton and tomsteve
orangeman
I would be interested to know who started the packaging tape thingy as a blade lubricant. Been doing that for 10+ years now. I think it was Mike M. of Flying Dutchman fame that discovered it was not the tape itself that was the lubricant but the lubricant that was appied to the tape to prevent sticking to itself. Correct me if I am wrong. Duck tape adhesive shelving paper works the same way. bb tomsteve

It is the top layer that is coated so that the tape does not permanently stick to itself and unrolls easily. SCROLLSAW703

Phantom Scroller
I use 2" sellotape all the time and certainly notice the difference if I don't use it and it helps keep the pattern down in the places you need to hold down as you cut. I'm just saying. Roly Edited March 30, 2018 by Phantom Scroller SCROLLSAW703
Dan
If you want to see it work, stack two pieces of 1/8" plexiglass and make some cuts with and without packing tape. I was sold at that point. Phantom Scroller and SCROLLSAW703 1

I was looking at the adhesive.....not. polyvinyl carbamate If you need a chemistry lesson, google that. The Release Agent The release agent is made of a complex combination of compounds of oxygen, carbon, and hydrogen. It is the most complicated part of the tape as if it is too oily it won't stay as a tape roll and if it's too sticky, you won't be able to use the roll.https://www.mayzo.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/06/PSTC-Release-Coat-Paper.pdf orangeman and tomsteve 1
