orangeman
Recently bought some very nice 4/4 soft maple for puzzles. Cut a few puzzles today and was astonished! The 4/4 turns out to be 2ply "plywood"! I can still use it but was amazed that it was 2 pieces of soft maple glued together to make it 4/4 thickness! I saw this many years ago with walnut and cherry and thought it was an anomaly. Perhaps it is common practice in the wood industry now. Has anyone else seen this? bbNext OCtoolguy
Karl S
I have never seen that, I would have returned the material immediately myself. when I buy 4/4 stock I would not accept a glue-up GrampaJim, OCtoolguy, Jim Finn and 2 others 4
Rockytime
What does 4/4 mean? OCtoolguy
Karl S
4/4 means 1" thick 1/4" X 4. This is the standard for measuring hardwoods 4/4 =1" 5/4= 1 1/4" 6/4 =1/1/2" Etc. OCtoolguy
JTTHECLOCKMAN
Means 1" approximately in the hardwood industry. 5/4 = 1-1/4" , 6/4 = 1-1/2" and so forth. I would not accept it either. That is false representation unless it is stated somewhere in the sales tag. Not acceptable to a reputable hardwood dealer. SCROLLSAW703
I would stop buyin' from your lumber people, but make it a point to tell them 4/4 lumber is NOT a glue up, & they are sellin' under false pretenses. OCtoolguy
NC Scroller
You got ripped off. I would take it back and get a refund or have them replace it with the proper wood. Jim Finn, SCROLLSAW703 and OCtoolguy 2
ike
I never heard of a wood outlet doing that. It looks like you could tell by looking at the edge and seeing the glue marks. IKE OCtoolguy and SCROLLSAW703
MrsN
I have never seen built up 4/4 being sold, although I have made my own by that method. I would be upset and call the distributor to complain. If it was glued well it will be structurally as strong or stronger than real 4/4 lumber. OCtoolguy
It makes one wonder if maybe the seller also go ripped off. Bait and switch? Ray Jim Finn
