Belive it or not, Christmas is right around the corner. Scrollers are starting to think about gifts and patterns to cut for loved ones. But since the Holiday season is also about helping others in need, we thought we'd do something new this year. This year, SSV is to put together an e-Book full of Christmas ornaments. These ornaments will be exclusive to this eBook and designed by our talented SSV members. Folks are can download the ebook in exchange for a donation to a charity. My hopes is that we'd be able to raise some money for very worthy causes, and provide some cool patterns at the same time.

So I'll need some volunteers to design some ornaments.

[*:2dlmi55f]Each designer will provide 5 patterns (no more, no less)
[*:2dlmi55f]I ask that the designs are not made available anywhere else (this gives value to the e-book)
[*:2dlmi55f]Designs must be emailed to Travis by November 1st (info below)

A few things to keep in mind:

[*:2dlmi55f]Religious and secular designs are accepted.
[*:2dlmi55f]Other religions also celebrate this time of year. Lets not neglect them.
[*:2dlmi55f]Keep detail and size appropriate for an ornament.

What do you get in exchange?

    [*:2dlmi55f]Credit for your design.
[*:2dlmi55f]The warm fuzzy feeling that you're helping others in need.

Submitting your ornaments:

[*:2dlmi55f]Email the ornaments directly to Travis (travis [at] scrollsawvillage.com)
[*:2dlmi55f]Formats accepted are JPG, PNG. Please keep this in black & White (no gray) only. That way I can convert them easier when putting together the ebook.
[*:2dlmi55f]I'll also accept Inkscape files (SVG). This is ideal if you know how to use Inkscape. That way there is no conversion.

I'm designing. Are you? So who's in?

I would love to help but unfortunately I have only few days to accomplish the task but somehow, this is a great idea and has a worthy cause! Giving gifts and patterns to the poor is very inspiring! Why not try the trinkets, you may post the designs too!

I would have loved to get involved in this, but without a saw I am sitting in a boat without any oars.

Let me know if there's some other way I can assist the effort.

You dont need a saw for this ... it is a collection of Ornament patterns by members of Scroll Saw Village put together in an eBook ... so if you have a knack for designing patterns you can be part of it.

Understood Orges, and a point well made. Being as rusty and out of the loop as I have been, I could not offer any detailed patterns unless I first worked them out in wood and proved to at least myself they where of sound quality and worthy effort. Maybe next year I might be comfortable enough with my knowledge base to partake in this event without feeling so unsure of my skill level...... naaaaaw, my ADD would not allow that, I'd still work it first just so I knew that I did :)

Hi Kevin,

Maybe I misspoke somewhere, sometimes I do that typing to fast and not re-reading what I wrote.

No, I do not have a DW788 yet.... I ordered it and am currently awaiting for it to arrive at my doorstep here in North Texas.

I am hoping it will be here before the end of the week.

Here's an update. We have 20 patterns from 4 different designers. It would be awesome if we can get double that if not triple it. The ebook will be donation ware. Basically anybody can download the ebook in exchange for a donation to charity. Its a great way to give to the less fortunate. A reminder that submissions end on Nov. 1st. So get your patterns designed soon. Details can be found at the beginning of this thread.
