thatknobtony
Hi everyone. Need some help please. I have given the neighbor lady some trivets lately and in return she got me two of these chunks of wood, God bless her but I have no idea what they might be. Can some one put a name to them please. bandaideman
I agree with walnut. Bark on walnut opens many possibilities. SCROLLSAW703, OCtoolguy and WayneMahler

dgman
Yup, Walnut. The typical walnut you buy at the lumber store is steamed to produce the uniform brown color we are familiar with. Air dried walnut will retain its natural colors which includes the purplish color you see in the picture. Steaming Browns the whiteish sapwood so the board will be a more uniform color. thatknobtony
Well that makes sense Dgman. I have some of the steamed stuff as well and the two types are very different in appearance. I do prefer the the look of the type in the picture though. I hope they weren't expensive. SCROLLSAW703 and OCtoolguy 1
