Rockytime
The time has come for me to break down and buy the Klingspor sander. I don't find Klingspor in the search department so I'll just ask again. Just what is it I need to purchase. I only want to purchase one. There seem to be a lot of options so I need to know just what I need. OCtoolguy
Sycamore67
I am uncertain about what you are asking. Are you talking about the sanding mops or Mac mops or something else. Also, exactly what will be the main use. OCtoolguy
Rockytime
Thank you for your response. Yes, the Klinspor sanding mop is what I meant. I just want to use it for removing the fuzz from my cuttings. I also want to use on my lathe as it is connected to dust collection. I know I need an arbor and need to know what mop I should use. I don't want something too aggressive. OCtoolguy
Scrappile
The sanding mops a less aggressive, at least to me, than sand paper. First I would not get less than a 7" diameter one, and if I was only going to have one I would get the 180 grit. It gives me a finish as smooth as 220 sand paper. I have a 120, 180 and a 240 and I use the 180 most. Now that is me, others may feel differently. OCtoolguy
Rockytime
Thanks Paul. Do I need to get a special arbor or does it come with one? I think I remembered kits if my memory serves me correctly. OCtoolguy
Scrappile
I'm sorry. I'm speaking of the "Mac Mops", not the Sanding Mops. Everything I stated was related to the Mac Mops. https://www.woodworkingshop.com/search.aspx?q=mac+mop I have the 7" x 2". I also have the Sanding Mops but I rarely use them now that I have Mac Mops.... the sanding mops you need to make or buy the arbor.. Sanding mops work good also, but I prefer the Mac Mops. Sycamore67
I think the Mac Mops are the best. Mine has a 1/4" arbor. You can adjust how aggressive by changing speeds.
Rockytime
Thanks Paul and Larry for the info. Since my pier will collapse before my ship comes in I will be getting the sanding mop rather than the mac mop. For the price of the mac mop I won't live long enough to justify the cost but the sanding mop will do everything I will need to do. I am currently using my Scotchbrite on my lathe as it has DC. That is how I would use the sanding mop. OCtoolguy
tgiro
You'll need a 1/2 inch mandrel to mount the sandpaper strips -- https://www.woodworkingshop.com/product/cl10012/ And you'll need the sandpaper strips -- https://www.woodworkingshop.com/product/fs36220/ Total cost = $39.90 + shipping. If you are knocking the fuzzies off of fretwork, I'd recommend 220 grit. For a really soft mop, stick a 1/2" washer in the pile about every 8 strips. Practice with some scrap pieces until you get the hang of it. A mop will cheerfully grab a piece out of your hands and throw it against the nearest wall. I have heard folks use double sided tape and stick fretwork to a solid board before hitting it with a mop. OCtoolguy

I tried to order earlier today but they had a temporary web ordering malfunction so I will hopefully complete an order tomorrow. Thanks for the suggestion of the washers. I want something gentle. Or am I missing something? Perhaps I am missing something. When I looked at their website I saw the sanding mops but the mac mops were like $139 and were 10 inch. I thought that was interesting. I'll go back and look again. Perhaps I have only one oar in the water. Can happen you know. OCtoolguy
Scrappile
What you saw was the larger sizes that are on the first few pages of the many pages of them. You have to get to about the 3rd or 4th page. Check the sizes. The reason I know what you saw, that is what I saw the first time I went there and I had sticker shock. Hope my little post did not offend you, I was just trying to josh you a little, and I only do that to friends... OCtoolguy
Rockytime
Hi Paul. I did find the 7" mac mops. I was so relieved. I have decided to order the sanding mops instead of the mac mops. The mac mops are 7" and the sanding mops are 6". My dust collector is mounted very close to the spindle on the lathe for pen turning and I don't want to move it. I only turn small items and have no desire to turn bowls. That is why I'm ordering the 6" sander. You had me fooled. I thought you must be a high roller. Anyway thanks to everyone for all the useful information. This is a great site! OCtoolguy
