Odd Blade Clamp Problem

When I purchased my 220VS Ultra Hawk it came with one lower blade clamp. I had ordered two more  but had not used them. My tension was set for the old clamp. While experimenting with other blades I used a new clamp. I attached the upper clamp to the blade and flipped the tension lever. BANG! The blade ripped out of the upper clamp. It happened again on the second try so I re adjusted the tension and it was OK. Later I went back to the old clamp and the tension was way too loose. It made no sense. I compared the holders and found the original holder was not drilled deep enough. The new ones were drilled down to the roll pin, the old one was not. I re-drilled the old one now they all work the same.

Great discovery. That's what makes hobbies more interesting, exploring and improving not only your skill and conform but you equipment also.

I thought the lower clamps you made ready took care of the hassle that the  Hawk has for the lower end  blade holder. You are one  great problem solver when it comes to the Hawk. I hope you told them how to improve this item, as it would sure help others that will experience the some problem and are not connected with The Village so they too can profit from you wisdom

Dick, you are very kind and a gentleman but I am no genius. I have, however, always worked on mechanical things. Yes, the holders I made for my 216VS worked beautifully. I'm putting that saw on craigs list this weekend. The saw I am using now is a 220VS Ultra Hawk which uses the newer rectangular clamp. I have to sell the smaller saw so I have access to my table saw and larger band saw.

When we first corresponded and you, so generously, sent me some of your lower clamp inventions, and I sent you that box of wood as a thank you...….  I have moved from Oregon and now live in Arizona. You probably know that already, just from seeing my posts on this site. When I moved I got rid of a lot of my larger tools because I wanted to make sure other things were going to fit into the moving truck. One of the items I did not bring with me, was my Hawk scroll saw. I, instead gave it to my daughter who was on here for a little while and has since set up a pretty nice shop at her house. I was so glad to have those clamps to give to her with the saw because they are so helpful and handy. She has since made some really nice jewelry boxes and refinish several pieces of furniture for her home. I just want to thank you once more for the helpfulness of those clamps and for all you do for the people on this site.
