Popular Post Scrappile Posted May 15, 2018 Popular Post Report Posted May 15, 2018 I just finished this one, well except for putting a finish on it. The reason, I think this is one of those that begs to be painted, but not sure I can do it. This is a pattern by Grampa. It is a great patten. I did it in natural edge Basswood. Wish I would have had a piece with more bark on the edges.... I really enjoyed cutting it, may try to paint it... But... I am no painter. MTCowpoke22, Birchbark, neptun and 9 others 12 Quote
jollyred Posted May 15, 2018 Report Posted May 15, 2018 I think you are right about the painting making it even better than it is. If you are uncertain about your painting ability, try a practice coloring first, Make a copy of the pattern and try painting that. Let us know how it turns out. Scrappile and amazingkevin 1 1 Quote
DWSUDEKUM Posted May 15, 2018 Report Posted May 15, 2018 Very nicely cut Paul. As for the painting... you never know until you do it. Thanks for sharing this with us. DW amazingkevin and Scrappile 1 1 Quote
Fish Posted May 15, 2018 Report Posted May 15, 2018 Nice cutting. I like the wood too. Scrappile 1 Quote
GPscroller Posted May 15, 2018 Report Posted May 15, 2018 Really nice job Paul and I agree that color may enhance this cutting. Jollyred had a good idea, practice on a copy of the pattern. Jeff Scrappile 1 Quote
wombatie Posted May 15, 2018 Report Posted May 15, 2018 That looks terrific Paul.. Maybe just a wash of color, not too much. Marg Scrappile 1 Quote

rdatelle Posted May 15, 2018 Report Posted May 15, 2018 Nice cutting on that one Paul. I'm not much of a painter either. I think I would leave well enough alone. Looks great the way it is to. Scrappile 1 Quote
barb.j.enders Posted May 15, 2018 Report Posted May 15, 2018 If you are wanting to add just a bit of colour there is a process called "dry brushing". Put a bit of paint on a wide brush, then take most of the paint off by brushing on a paper towel, when you think there is no more paint on the brush, take the brush to your wood and lightly brush over the area you want colour on. I hope this makes sense. Another way to look at it is like a lady applying blush makeup to her cheeks - just a very light hand!! Scrappile 1 Quote
bobscroll Posted May 15, 2018 Report Posted May 15, 2018 Great looking work you did there Paul! Thank you for letting us see, Bob Scrappile 1 Quote

I have many colors of the acrylic paints.. like the Delta brand. Quote
Dave Monk Posted May 16, 2018 Report Posted May 16, 2018 Go for it Paul. Worst case scenario you have to sand it off. Quote
Roberta Moreton Posted May 16, 2018 Report Posted May 16, 2018 You could also use colored backer. Quote
Gordster Posted May 16, 2018 Report Posted May 16, 2018 Beautiful cutting on a beautiful pattern Paul,as for the painting,I can't advise you on that one. Scrappile 1 Quote

I think some are the Delta brand. I have used even regular "house" paint. Scrappile 1 Quote
Rockytime Posted May 24, 2018 Report Posted May 24, 2018 Such beautiful work. Don't think I would paint it. Scrappile 1 Quote
